All-Wheel-Drive Volkswagen Golf Estate TDI with 1,500 Kilograms Trailer Capacity

For better grip and active safety – The Volkswagen Golf Estate 4Motion

Wolfsburg, 25 March 2008 - Volkswagen is now offering its Volkswagen Golf Estate with permanent all-wheel drive. The 4Motion system is coupled to an economical yet high-torque turbodiesel generating 77 kW. This gives the Volkswagen Golf Estate TDI 4Motion, which is available with immediate effect, the best possible grip even on an uninterrupted blanket of snow. As a general rule, permanent all-wheel drive improves cornering forces even on a dry carriageway, thus making a positive contribution to active safety and driving pleasure.

The Volkswagen Golf Estate TDI 4Motion is equipped as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox. An electronically controlled Haldex clutch distributes the forces between the front and rear axles. This coupling is integrated directly into the rear axle to allow a variable distribution of forces. In extreme situations, practically 100 percent of the drive forces can be transmitted via the rear axle.

Equipped as standard with a particulate filter, the all-wheel drive estate consumes just 6.0 litres of diesel over 100 kilometres. The Golf Estate TDI 4Motion accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 12.9 seconds and has a top speed of 185 km/h.

An interesting point for all trailer towers: Apart from the handling characteristics, the trailer load capacity also benefits from all-wheel drive. The Golf Estate 4Motion is able to pull 1,500 kilograms up gradients of up to twelve percent, 100 kg more than its front-wheel drive counterpart.

The 4Motion all-wheel drive system is available on the Golf Estate in conjunction with all equipment lines (Trendline, Comfortline, Sportline). The starting price in Germany is 23,775 euro.
