As partner to Greek Olympic Committee, Volkswagen is providing a fleet of 18 vehicles to accompany the first leg of the torch relay which will take 6 days to cross Greece. The Olympic torch relay bridges the ancient and modern Olympic Games. Volkswagen is proud and honoured to be able to support this important symbol of peace and solidarity among nations.

The President of the Greek Olympic Committee (HOC) Minos Kyriakou and Volkswagen will presented the fleet on 13 March at an official press conference. Volkswagen and HOC used the occasion to announce that they will present the people of Greece with a symbolic donation of 2008 trees for Olympia. The severe fires last summer did substantial damage to the surroundings of the ancient sports arenas. That is why 2,000 young trees have already been planted in Olympia. On the eve of the official lighting of the torch, former Olympic champions including hockey player Nadine Ernsting or Russian gymnastics legend Alexey Nemov, great athletes like racing star „Frankie" Cheng from China and further international figures will plant the last trees.

Volkswagen is the automobile partner of the Organisation Committee of the Beijing Olympic Games (BOCOG), the Greek Olympic Committee (HOC) and the National Olympic Committees of Algeria, Greece, Ireland, Croatia, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Slovenia and Russia. In China alone, the Volkswagen Group will be providing more than 6,000 vehicles for the sports event of the year.
