January to May Sees Another Delivery Record for the Volkswagen Brand
- 1.57 million Volkswagen vehicles sold from January to May – increase of 6.7 percent
- Difficult overall market in May: 318,600 vehicles (- 0.8 percent) delivered worldwide
Wolfsburg, 20 June 2008 - The Volkswagen brand delivered 1.57 million vehicles in the first five months of this year, an increase of 6.7 percent compared with January to May last year and at the same time a new delivery record for this period. In a difficult market environment, the Volkswagen brand delivered 318,600 vehicles worldwide (- 0.8 percent) in May, thus performing noticeably better than the overall market (- 2.9 percent).
The three highest volume single markets in the period January to May 2008 were China, Germany and Brazil. Although demand was affected by the earthquake, a total of 372,900 vehicles (plus 18.8 percent) were delivered in China from January to May. On the German market, which is characterized by high fuel prices and the continuing discussion on CO2 taxation, the brand delivered 218,400 vehicles (plus 9.2 percent), while deliveries in Brazil totaled 212,300 vehicles (plus 18.7 percent). The highest volume continent from January to May was Europe with 683,700 vehicles delivered (plus 2.0 percent).
