Wolfsburg, 21 April 2008 -- The Volkswagen Group started the second quarter of 2008 with another global record: Under increasingly difficult market conditions, Europe’s largest automaker expects to deliver some 550,000 vehicles in April, an increase of 7.0 percent compared with April 2007. As a result, Group deliveries during the first four months of the year will exceed the two million mark for the first time. The company expects to deliver 2.12 million vehicles to customers worldwide during this period, also representing an increase of 7.0 percent on the previous year. This is significantly higher than the 2.5 percent rise anticipated for the global passenger car market.
Highlights:
- 2.12 million vehicles delivered in first four months – seven percent rise
- Volkswagen brand also reports marked increase in deliveries
- Market conditions becoming more difficult
“The Volkswagen Group with its eight brands is in excellent shape and is pursuing a clear international strategy: new markets, new products, new customer groups bring strong growth. At the same time, we are further expanding our existing positions on established markets and are developing a sustained momentum with our unparalleled, broad-based and increasingly individual model portfolio spanning subcompacts to heavy trucks,” Detlef Wittig, Executive Vice President, Group Sales and Marketing, commented.
Volkswagen, the Group’s highest-volume brand, expects global passenger car deliveries in April to exceed 320,000 units, an increase of 5.9 per cent. With provisional delivery figures for the first four months running at 1.24 million vehicles, an increase of 7.7 percent is on the cards.
