Indian Delegation Visits Volkswagen in Wolfsburg
Wolfsburg, 29 January 2008 - The Chief Minister of the Indian state of Maharashtra, Shri Vilasrao Deshmukh, visited Volkswagen in Wolfsburg today (Tuesday) accompanied by a delegation.
Prof. Dr. Jochem Heizmann, Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG with responsibility for ‘Group Production’, and Detlef Wittig, Executive Vice President Group Sales and Marketing, welcomed the guests in the Werkforum. Plant Manager Siegfried Fiebig and the President of Volkswagen India, Jörg Müller, were also present.
The guests were taken on a tour of the factory, visiting the Golf and Tiguan production lines as well as Touran assembly at Auto5000. The subsequent intensive exchange of information and views paid tribute to the strategic significance of the automotive sector in India.
Prof. Heizmann commented: "Volkswagen’s activities in India are an important element in our international product offensive. To conquer this future market we are developing innovative and attractive vehicle concepts which we will be building at our new plant in Pune from 2009. With our vehicles tailored to the regional wants of our Indian customers, Volkswagen will in future assume a successful position in the Indian automobile industry."
The industrial city of Pune, the location of Volkswagen’s planned new production facility in India, is situated in the west of Maharashtra state. The Volkswagen plant in Pune, which will have an annual capacity of up to 110,000 vehicles, will begin operating in 2009 and will create some 2,500 new jobs.
