Volkswagen Statement on Embezzlement Hearing
Wolfsburg, 26 November 2007 - We wish to issue the following statement concerning the accusations relating to today’s embezzlement hearing against Messrs. Volkert and Gebauer:
The allegation that an investigation into Dr. Hartz’s cost center 1860 was conducted at Volkswagen between 1997 and 2002, and that there was therefore knowledge of the embezzlement undertaken by Messrs. Volkert and Gebauer is false.
In fact, it would be correct to state that no such investigation was ever conducted as there was no basis for such an inquiry. The Group and the then Chairman of the Board of Management therefore had no knowledge whatsoever of the embezzlement.
In view of the defamatory allegations made in connection with the case, Volkswagen is currently reviewing whether to file slander charges.
