Volkswagen and Berlinale: A Proven, Creative Partnership
Wolfsburg, 24 January 2007 - Volkswagen once again moves to the center stage when the curtain rises on the 57th Berlin International Film Festival. The Wolfsburg-based company is providing the largest fleet yet since it started its support for the Berlinale, with a line-up of 132 vehicles. The models taking part in Berlin are the Phaeton, Touareg, Eos, Multivan and Golf plus. Making its debut this year is the “Volksbus” provided by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles for the Volkswagen Film Location Tour, the Berlin sightseeing tour with a difference which visits memorable international film locations. The idea behind the extended, broad-ranging support given by Volkswagen is to foster innovation and encourage young talent. As Christiane Krebs-Hartmann, Head of Public Relations, commented: "We are very excited about this year’s Festival, the fifth in our successful partnership, and once again look forward to realizing new creative approaches."
The break-down of Volkswagen activities:
Berlinale Talent Campus
Volkswagen is organizing the Volkswagen Score Competition for the fourth time. Young film composers and sound designers from all over the world set selected film scenes to music in cooperation with the Film Orchestra Babelsberg. The Volkswagen Score Competition award ceremony will take place at the Hebbel Theater am Ufer on February 15, 2007. Volkswagen will also be presenting two Volkswagen Sound Foundation Bands – BenJammin from Mainz and the Berlin-based band Data MC – at the Talent Campus Opening Party on February 10, 2007 and the Farewell Ceremony on February 15, 2007.
TEDDY
Volkswagen and Tip, Berlin’s city magazine, are presenting the TEDDY Ballot audience award. Volkswagen is providing a fleet of 15 black Golf Plus for prominent TEDDY guests.
Cooperation with the Forum Section
On February 15, the Volkswagen Orchestra will be giving a live performance in the Deutsche Oper Berlin of Jason Staczek’s composition for "Brand Upon the Brain!", a film directed by Canadian Guy Maddin. The participation of Isabella Rossillini as the narrator crowns the European premiere of this silent film in the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
Culinary Cinema
"Eat, Drink, See Movies!" is the slogan of a new special "Culinary Cinema" series of movies and events at the International Film Festival. Films, food and discussions focusing on slow food and enjoyment celebrate culinary genius in Berlin. Kids and teenagers will also be participating, cooking with famous chefs under an initiative called "Lecker lernen – Schule des Essens" (Tasty learning – the school of food). Volkswagen is supporting this initiative with star-awarded chef Stefan Marquard.
European Shooting Stars
The partnership with European Film Promotion, the European network of national promotion and export organizations, is a long-standing one. Volkswagen will be chauffeuring the 25 young actors and actresses in 15 silver Eos and is a partner of the "10 years Shooting Stars" gala. This year’s German Shooting Star is Maximilian Brückner, best known as the new detective inspector in the Saarland "Tatort" TV crime series.
Kino im Kopf at Volkswagen startklar
In the "Volkswagen startklar" youth forum located in the Sony Center, artists from various genres will be recounting their favorite films daily from February 9 to February 17. The very popular series of events launched last year in cooperation with "Radio Fritz" is again joined by celebrities including Joy Denalane, Markus Kavka, Natalia Wörner, Maximilian Brückner, Christian Oliver, Armin Rohde and Christian Ulmen.
Volkswagen’s commitment during the Berlin International Film Festival is rounded off by the "Volkswagen Golden Bear Lounge", the traditional meeting point for the film industry in the Grand Hyatt Berlin, and the "People’s Night" together with the "Phaeton Lounge" for invited guests.
Dieter Kosslick, Festival Director commented: "We would like to thank our long-standing partner Volkswagen for such comprehensive support. We are particularly delighted with VW’s commitment to the "Schule des Essens" project, which is part of our new Culinary Cinema series of events. We would like to toast the fifth anniversary of our fantastic cooperation."
