Volvo Unleashes Volley of Exciting New Concept Vehicles at the 2007 SEMA Show
Las Vegas, NV (October 30, 2007) - Five years, five cars. As a commemoration to Volvo's fifth straight year at the annual Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) tradeshow, the Swedish manufacturer will show five highly modified versions of its vehicles. Ranging from the all-new Volvo XC70 to a high-performance version of the Volvo S80 T6, an eye-popping Volvo C30 to a Volvo C70 convertible, and a one-off fully custom hot rod, this year marks Volvo Cars most ambitious SEMA effort ever.
Four of the concepts are based on production versions of the Volvo XC70, the S80 T6, the C70 Convertible and the C30, while the fifth car is a built-from-the-ground-up, totally custom hot rod using major Volvo components from the previous-generation S80.

Launch
The all new Volvo C70 is the second-generation convertible from Volvo Cars. It was launched at the Frankfurt motor show in September 2005. The aim was to create two cars in one - without compromising on either. A three-piece retractable hardtop transforms the Volvo C70 from coupe to convertible at the touch of a button.
The all new Volvo C70 has been developed in close cooperation with Pininfarina of Italy.
Business project manager: Patrik Widerstrand.

The New Volvo C70 – "Two in One": The Coupe and The Convertible
The new Volvo C70 started its life as a coupe. Then the design team, headed by Fedde Talsma took the roof away. One car became two. "Both cars" are, however, among the leaders in safety and styling and fun to drive.

A convertible is usually designed as an open car. A roof is then crafted on to it, with a result that is not always pleasing to the eye. At Volvo Cars, the design team did exactly the opposite when working on the new C70. They created a sporty coupe and then converted it into an attractive convertible. Because the secret is to make the car look at its best irrespective of whether the top is up or down.
