Approximately 19,000 General Motors Hourly Employees Participate in Attrition Program
Program Enables Company to Restructure Workforce
DETROIT, Mich., 2008-05-29 – General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM) continued to transform its North American operations by announcing approximately 19,000 of its U.S. hourly employees have decided to take advantage of the company’s attrition program. Most of the employees participating in the program will leave the company no later than July 1, 2008.
GM will fill job openings with current employees whenever possible, as spelled out in the provisions of the GM/UAW national labor agreement. In facilities where GM needs new employees, those individuals would be hired in at the entry-level wage and benefit structure. The extent of the new hiring at each facility will be determined on a plant-by-plant basis.
UAW Ratification Votes Scheduled at Detroit-area American Axle Locals
DETROIT, Sunday, May 18, 2008 -- UAW members at Detroit-area American Axle local unions will participate in ratification votes on the tentative agreement reached with American Axle according to the following schedule:
Members of UAW Local 262 will vote at their union hall on Monday, May 19, from 8 am to 5 pm.
Members of UAW Local 235 will vote at their union hall on Thursday, May 22, from 3 am to 7 pm.
Local union leaders and representatives from the office of UAW Vice President Jimmy Settles, director of the American Axle Department, will be at UAW Local 235 to answer questions regarding the tentative agreement from 9 am to 5 pm on Monday, May 19, Tuesday May 20 and Wednesday, May 21.

AAM-UAW Bargaining Resumes - Current UAW economic proposal is not market cost competitive
April 10, 2008 -- Negotiators representing American Axle & Manufacturing, Inc. (AAM) and the UAW met at the bargaining table for the first time in over three weeks on April 9, 2008. At this meeting, the UAW presented a new economic proposal to AAM.
Although it was a slight improvement from the UAW's previous bargaining positions, the all-in labor cost proposed by the UAW is still approximately 200% of the market rate of AAM's competitors in the United States automotive supply industry.
AAM expressed disappointment over the UAW's failure to make proposals that address the competitive reality AAM and its UAW-represented associates jointly face in the U.S. driveline marketplace.
General Motors, UAW Reach Agreement on Comprehensive Special Attrition Program
2008-02-12, DETROIT - General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM) and the United Auto Workers (UAW) union have reached an agreement on a comprehensive special attrition program that will be offered to all of GM's 74,000 UAW-represented employees.
The special attrition program offers a choice of several pension and buyout incentives. GM is offering retirement pension incentives of $45,000 for production employees or $62,500 for skilled trades. Eligible employees can select from a variety of ways to receive their incentive:
* One time, lump-sum cash payment
* Direct rollover into their GM 401(k) or into an Individual Retirement Account (IRA)
* Monthly annuity
* Combination of partial lump-sum payment and direct rollover into their GM 401(k) or an IRA

Interactive Ad Campaign to Showcase UAW Members
Monday, December 17, 2007 -- UAW members are featured in a new, interactive advertising campaign that debuts today in five Midwest and southeast media markets.
The ads will also appear on a new, interactive Web site, IAmtheUAW.org, which invites UAW members, family members, friends and supporters to submit their own stories, photos, podcasts and videos.
“This is a great opportunity to showcase our members and the contribution our union makes to our communities and workplaces,” said UAW President Ron Gettelfinger. “Nobody represents our organization better than our own members.”
UAW Members Ratify New Contract with International Truck and Engine
Monday, December 17, 2007, Detroit - UAW members at 11 local unions in Georgia, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas have voted to ratify a new three-year labor agreement with International Truck and Engine (ITE). Seventy-one percent of workers voted in favor of the new contract in balloting conducted on Sunday, Dec. 16. The agreement settles a strike which began at ITE facilities on Oct. 23 in protest of unfair labor practices.
The pact will cover more than 4,000 UAW members at 11 local unions around the country who make medium- and light-duty truck engines and Navistar medium-duty trucks.
UAW, Mack Truck Agree to Contract Extension
Friday, December 14, 2007 -- The UAW and Mack Truck have agreed to extend the terms of the existing Master Agreement and all local supplemental agreements on a day-to-day basis.
These agreements had been scheduled to expire at 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 14, 2007. This extension will allow us to continue our talks, and both the UAW and Mack remain committed to working toward the successful conclusion of negotiations.

UAW Reaches Tentative Agreement with International Truck and Engine
Wednesday, December 12, 2007 -- UAW negotiators reached a tentative agreement on a three-year contract with International Truck and Engine Corp. (ITE) at 11 a.m. (EST) today.
The pact will cover more than 4,000 UAW members at 11 local unions around the country who make medium- and light-duty truck engines and Navistar medium-duty trucks.
“Our negotiating team did an outstanding job bringing these talks to a successful close,” said UAW Vice President General Holiefield, who directs the union’s Heavy Trucks Department. “They stood up to the company’s demands and came away with an agreement that protects jobs, wages and health care benefits for our membership.”

Wednesday, December 05, 2007 -- The UAW “strongly supports” new fuel economy provisions in energy legislation being considered by Congress, UAW President Ron Gettelfinger said today.
“The UAW strongly supports this historic bill, which contains aggressive but still achievable fuel economy requirements,” said Gettelfinger. “It will help consumers and the environment, and at the same time protect U.S. jobs.”
