2008 Formula SAE Competition Award Results Announced

WARRENDALE, Pa., May 21, 2008 -- Following are the key award results from the 2008 Formula SAE(R) competition held at the Michigan International Speedway:

Chrysler LLC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert Nardelli to Keynote SAE World Congress Banquet

WARRENDALE, Pa., Feb. 12, 2008 -- Robert Nardelli, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Chrysler LLC, will be the featured speaker at the SAE 2008 World Congress Annual Banquet, scheduled Thursday, April 17, 7 p.m., at the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center.

The event, which has grown into one of the largest gatherings of global automotive industry leaders, caps off the four-day SAE 2008 World Congress hosted this year by Chrysler.

New SAE International Book Covers 75 Years of Chrysler Engines

WARRENDALE, Pa., Feb. 7, 2008 - A new SAE International book chronicling more than 75 years of Chrysler engines offers a unique look at automotive history.

Written by Willem L. Weertman, Chrysler Engines, 1922-1998 covers the design, development and creation of every production engine built by the Chrysler Corporation.

Weertman, who worked as an engineer and engine designer at the Chrysler Corporation for 40 years, provides descriptions, images, specifications and timelines for each engine. The book also examines the personalities behind the engines' development as well as the vehicles in which the engines were used.

Examples of landmark engines highlighted in the book:

SAE Recognizes Engineers for Automotive Electronics Research

WARRENDALE, Pa., Jan. 29, 2008 -- Seven research engineers are recipients of SAE International's Vincent Bendix Automotive Electronics Award. They will be presented the award during the SAE 2008 World Congress Award Ceremony held April 15, 5-7:30 p.m., at Cobo Center in Detroit.

The award, established in 1976, recognizes the authors of the best paper relating to automotive electronics engineering that was presented at an SAE International meeting.

The following authors will be recognized for co-authoring, "The Potential of Switched Reluctance Motor Technology for Electro-Mechanical Brake Applications" (SAE paper #2006-01-0296), which summarizes research done at Delphi in conjunction with the University of Akron.

SAE International Becomes Continuing Education Provider to AAMA Members

WARRENDALE, Pa., Jan. 18, 2008 - SAE International has been named by the Alabama Automotive Manufacturer’s Association (AAMA) as an official provider of continuing education.

SAE International plays a key role in the training of automotive engineering professionals throughout the world.

“We are pleased to have been invited to work directly with the Alabama Automotive Manufacturer’s Association,” Kevin Perry, director of Professional Development, SAE International, said. “We very much look forward to being an integral part of the growing automotive manufacturing sector in the southeast . GM Researcher to Receive SAE Award for Contributing to Mobility Engineering

WARRENDALE, Pa., Dec. 17, 2007 - Cherian Idicheria of the General Motors Research and Development Laboratory in Warren, Mich., is the recipient of SAE International's Russell S. Springer Award. He will be presented his award during the SAE 2007 World Congress in Detroit, April 14-17.

The award, established in 1954, recognizes the author of an original and outstanding technical paper presented at an SAE International conference that contributes to the mobility engineering profession.

Idicheria will be recognized for his paper, "Formaldehyde Visualization Near Lift-off Location in a Diesel Jet" (SAE Paper #2006-01-3434), co-authored by Lyle M. Pickett.

Braking Expert Stanley Stokes to Receive SAE Cooperative Engineering Medal

WARRENDALE, Pa., Dec. 5, 2007 - Stanley Stokes, founder and principal of BrakeTec in Sahuarita, Ariz., is the recipient of SAE International's Arch T. Colwell Cooperative Engineering Medal. He will be presented the award during the SAE 2007 World Congress in Detroit, April 14-17.

This award, established in 1976, recognizes outstanding contributions to SAE technical committees under the SAE Technical Standards Board. These contributions can include developing standards, specifications, technical reports and data through cooperative research. The medal is named in honor of Arch T. Colwell, 1941 SAE President.

SAE 2007 Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress Lauded for Global Focus

WARRENDALE, Pa., Nov. 9, 2007 - Global market concerns are heard in the news almost daily, yet the 2007 SAE Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress & Exhibition, with executive leadership provided by John Deere., is in the books as an industry success.

"The 2007 Commercial Vehicle Congress exceeded even the high goals we set for it. BorgWarner Scientists Receive SAE Award for Automotive Lubricant Research

WARRENDALE, Pa., Nov. 2, 2007 - A team of three scientists from the BorgWarner Powertrain Technical Center at Auburn Hills, Mich., are recipients of SAE International's Award for Automotive Lubricant Research. They were presented the award during the SAE Powertrain & Fluid Systems Conference & Exhibition in Rosemont, Ill., Oct. 29-31.

The award, established in 1986, annually recognizes the authors of the best paper relating to the adaptation of lubricants and lubricated automotive systems or components.

Visteon's David Hung to Receive SAE Standards Award for Work in Automotive Fuel Sprays

WARRENDALE, Pa., Oct. 19, 2007 - David L.S. Hung of the Visteon Corporation is the recipient of SAE International's Henry Souther Standards Award. He will be presented the award during the SAE Powertrain & Fluid Systems Conference in Rosemont, Ill., Oct. 29-31.

The award, established in 2001, acknowledges accomplishments in standards development in the areas of environmental studies, safety, materials, testing and emissions.

This award is funded through the SAE Foundation. In addition to supporting the awards, recognition and scholarship programs of SAE International, the SAE Foundation develops and funds programs and incentives that foster student interest in engineering, scientific and technical education.
