8th Edition of Renault's International Primary School "Safety For All" Campaign
Campaign Has Made 1.2 Million Children Worldwide Aware of Road Safety
June17, 2008 -- Every year since its launch in 2000, the international ‘Safety For All’ campaign has offered primary school teachers the opportunity to make their students aware of road safety thanks to a free teaching kit and a drawing competition.
This year’s campaign reached out to another 1.2 million children worldwide aged between 7 and 11 years through the teaching kit. Eight countries competed in the drawing competition, with nearly 6,000 entries on the theme of ‘Road safety is our business!’

Honda Cooperating on Development of Driving Safety Support Systems Using Inter-Vehicle and Road-to-Vehicle Communications to Help Reduce Traffic Accidents
TOKYO, Japan, March 24, 2008 – Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced that it will conduct testing on public roadways of its Driving Safety Support Systems*1 (DSSS) using inter-vehicle and road-to-vehicle communications. The tests, which will be conducted using the “Honda ASV-4” Advanced Safety Vehicle*2 and other vehicles equipped with advanced safety technology, will be carried out between Monday, March 24, and Friday, March 28, on public roadways in Utsunomiya City, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan.
Nissan Sponsors China Road Safety Forum
BEIJING, March 20, 2008 - Created to raise awareness and education on road safety in China, the "China Road Safety Forum," sponsored by Nissan (China) Investment Co., Ltd. (NCIC), wrapped today here in the capital.

Navigation Systems Seriously Undermine Road Safety as Software Errors Are Being Ignored
THE HAGUE, The Netherlands, January 8/PRNewswire/ -- Using a new research method, the Stichting Onderzoek Navigatiesystemen ("Navigation Systems Research Foundation") has discovered why navigation systems cannot find ring roads in cities. Software errors are the cause. The Foundation predicts a catastrophic development if the authorities do not intervene: more traffic accidents and casualties, and side roads becoming jammed with volumes of traffic for which they were not designed.
Ford's VIRTTEX Lab Helps Lead Driver Distraction Research for NHTSA's SAVE-IT Project
DEARBORN, Mich., Dec. 11, 2007 – Results from a five-year study aimed at finding ways to develop, demonstrate and evaluate methods to help minimize the risk of driver distraction and enhance the effectiveness of crash warning systems in vehicles are expected to be released in early 2008 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Highlights:
* NHTSA’s SAfety VEhicles using adaptive Interface Technologies (SAVE-IT) research project is investigating ways to reduce distraction-related crashes and improve the effectiveness of safety warning system.
* On-going, two-phase research program began in 2003 and is scheduled to be completed in 2008.
* In-vehicle research continues at Ford’s state-of-the-art Virtual Text Track Experiment (VIRTTEX) lab.
