Advanced Parallel Park Assist system monitors the suitability of parking spaces and then ‘self-steers’ into them

August 8, 2008 -- The new Audi A3 Cabriolet is already adept at getting its driver out of a tight spot thanks to a powered roof which can shrug off sharp showers in as little as 11 seconds, but it can now also find its way into one with the help of a new Parallel Park Assist feature. This sophisticated urban stress reliever is available right across the A3 Cabriolet range, which is priced from £19,995 OTR for the new 1.6 petrol model to £27,060 OTR for the 2.0T FSI S line.

“Park Assist Vision” independently guides Volkswagen Passat into any parking space

Wolfsburg, 22 April 2008 -- There is something decidedly fantastical about this scene: We observe the approach of a Volkswagen Passat estate, it stops, the driver gets out, slams the door shut and, as he walks away from the car, he aims a remote control back at it. That car now proceeds to reverse park itself into the available space, it then independently cuts the engine and activates the door locks. End of performance.
