Diversity defines the Sierra HD lineup. There are 10 Sierra 2500HD models, eight 3500HD models and six Sierra Denali HD models. Among them are regular cab, extended cab and crew cab body styles offered in 2WD and 4WD, as well as single- and dual-rear-wheel configurations – all available with either a standard gas V-8 or the powerful Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel.
Along with a diverse range of models and configurations is the capability to handle just about any job Sierra HD owners can throw at their trucks. Highlights include:
Best-in-class towing capability of 23,000 pounds (10,432 kg)
2012 Ram 4500 and 5500 medium-duty (Class 4 and 5) Chassis Cab commercial trucks are available with an optional 30,000-lb. gross combined weight rating (GCWR), an increase from 26,000 lbs.
“This is a direct benefit to our core customers in agriculture and the construction industries,” said Fred Diaz, President and CEO, Ram Truck Brand and Chrysler de Mexico — Chrysler Group LLC. “Essentially, this will help our ‘work truck’ work harder and meet our customers’ towing needs.”
30,000-lb. GCWR and Max Tow
Ram Truck brand continues to build on the award-winning 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty lineup. Ram Truck and Cummins have developed an enhanced High Output Turbo Diesel offering an unsurpassed 800 lb.-ft. of torque.
Additionally Ram HD also has a Max Tow package option for the Ram 3500 with a 22,750-lb. maximum trailer weight and up to class-leading 30,000 lb. Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR).
Redesigned for 2011, the Silverado heavy-duty lineup rolls into 2012 with even greater towing and payload capacities to lead the segment, including:
Best-in-class 1-ton fifth-wheel towing capacity of 23,000 pounds (10,430 kg)
Best-in-class conventional towing capacity of 18,000 pounds (8,164 kg)
Best-in-class payload of 7,215 pounds (3,272 kg)
“The 2012 Chevrolet Silverado HD builds on the award-winning foundation created for 2011,” said Rick Spina, vehicle line executive. “We worked to raise the bar even further, developing engineering updates and conducting additional validation with the goal of making the new Silverado HD the most capable heavy-duty pickup ever.”
