GM's Full-Size Pickups, SUVs Deliver Better Fuel Economy and Same Great Capabilities with New 'XFE' Models
DETROIT, 2008-08-13 – General Motors is building on the segment-leading fuel economy of its full-size pickups and SUVs with new XFE models of the 2009 Chevy Silverado, Chevy Tahoe, GMC Sierra and GMC Yukon. The vehicles use a combination of mechanical, aerodynamic and mass-reducing enhancements to deliver a 5-percent increase in EPA-estimated highway fuel economy and more than 7-percent improved mileage in city driving.

2009 GMC Sierra Hybrid
Chicago – GMC announced the 2009 GMC Sierra Hybrid, a powerful full-size pickup that achieves 40-percent greater city fuel economy and a 25-percent improvement in overall fuel economy while delivering the capability expected of a full-size truck – including a 6,100-pound (2,767 kg) towing capacity.

Partnering General Motors’ patented two-mode hybrid system and a powerful 6.0L gas V-8, the Sierra Hybrid delivers highly efficient performance, including all-electric driving up to 30 mph (48 km/h). That allows fuel savings to be realized even when the truck is fully loaded or towing a trailer.

General Motors to Reduce Full-Size Truck Production
Move to bring production in line with market demand and company to explore options to expand car production
DETROIT, 2008-04-28 – General Motors (GM) announced today that it is eliminating one shift of production at its full-size pickup truck assembly plants in Pontiac, Mich.; Flint, Mich.; and Oshawa, Ontario; and its full-size SUV assembly plant in Janesville, Wis. The decisions were made to bring production capacity more in line with market demand.
Under this plan, approximately 88,000 units of full-size pickup and 50,000 units of full-size SUV production will be removed from GM’s North American production capacity for the remainder of the 2008 calendar year.
Based on current plans, the shift reductions will be effective on the following dates:

GM Celebrates Production of One-Millionth Allison A-Series Transmission
2007-10-18, BALTIMORE – General Motors Corp. announced today the production of its one-millionth Allison A1000 transmission at its Baltimore transmission plant. The transmission is a key component of the powertrain for GM’s award-winning Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks.
GM Powertrain’s Baltimore transmission plant was built in 2000, and produced its first transmission on December 5 that year. The A1000-series transmission was first introduced in the 2001 model Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra heavy-duty pickups and since then, customer enthusiasm for the transmission has been outstanding. In fact, the A1000-series transmission provides segment-leading torque output of 660-lb ft.

They were highlighted by all-new and differentiated exterior designs, two unique interiors and class-leading power and efficiency. Sierra 1500 is available in several trim packages, including Work Truck, SL (crew cab only), SLE (SLE1 and SLE2 models) and SLT, along with 2WD and 4WD configurations. Three cab styles – regular, extended and crew cab – and three cargo box lengths – 5 foot 8 inches, 6 foot 6 inches and 8 foot – are offered.
