General Motors of Canada Reports June 2008 Sales Results
Oshawa, Ontario, July 2, 2008 – For June 2008, General Motors of Canada dealers delivered 32,355 units, down 23.8% from a year ago.
“GM Canada's June sales reflected the significant ongoing market impact of rising gas prices and the resulting further consumer shift toward cars and smaller crossovers,” said Marc Comeau, GM of Canada’s vice-president of sales, service, and marketing. “GM is shifting production and adjusting on the ground inventories to address demand for our hot selling fuel efficient cars like the Pontiac Wave and G5, the Saturn Astra and Aura, the Chevrolet Aveo, Malibu and our own Oshawa built Chevrolet Impala, which all performed exceptionally well in June.”
GM Holden, The Smith Family Give Moulden Kids a Boost

The Smith Family is a national, independent social enterprise which supports children and families living in financial disadvantage to create a better future through education.
GM Holden’s support involves the introduction of a Homework Club in the Northern Territory and provides Learning for Life scholarships for primary school students in South Australia and Victoria.
The Homework Club is a program designed to enable students of Moulden Park School and Neighbourhood Centre to fully participate in their education. Moulden is a suburb of Palmerston, situated 20 minutes from Darwin.

DETROIT, 2008-07-01 – General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM) today announced June sales results, highlighted by an 8 percent rise in retail car sales and continued strong performance in crossovers. Despite the significant decline of industry market volume and the limited availability of some of GM’s most popular models, GM dealers in the United States delivered 265,937 vehicles in June, down 8 percent (18.5 percent unadjusted). Truck sales declined 6 percent.

GM, Carnegie Mellon Commit to Develop Driverless Vehicles
PITTSBURGH, June 19, 2008 — General Motors Corp. (GM) and Carnegie Mellon University today announced a new Collaborative Research Lab (CRL) and a renewed commitment to work jointly on technologies that will accelerate the emerging field of autonomous driving — a family of electronics and software technologies that could influence the way drivers and their vehicles interact in the future.
The GM-Carnegie Mellon Autonomous Driving Collaborative Research Lab is being established under the terms of a five-year, $5 million agreement. The lab will operate as an extension of GM's Global Research & Development network and will be located at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh. Faculty from the university’s School of Computer Science and College of Engineering will participate.
Trollhattan Plant to Build Next Generation Saab 9-3
2008-06-19 -- General Motors (GM) has allocated production of the next generation Saab 9-3 to the Trollhattan plant in Sweden. This morning the Saab staff was informed by GM Europe President and Chairman of the Saab Board Carl-Peter Forster.
“This is obviously extremely positive news for our organization and the region and a clear signal of the confidence in our ability to deliver world class production quality and efficiency”, says Saab Automobile Managing Director Jan Åke Jonsson.

Ruesselsheim, 2008-06-20 -- Today, GME President Carl-Peter Forster announced two significant production allocations at an all employee meeting in Ruesselsheim, Germany. The plant in Ruesselsheim, Germany, now preparing for the production launch of the new Opel Insignia, will also manufacture the next generation Astra coming into market as of 2010. Other GME compact car plants are Bochum, Germany, Ellesmere Port, UK, Gliwice, Poland and Trollhättan, Sweden. The production of the next generation SAAB 9-3 has been allocated to the plant in Trollhättan.
GM Holden Executive Director of Manufacturing Announces Retirement
2008-06-20 -- GM Holden announced today that after over 35 years of service, Rod Keane, Executive Director – Manufacturing will retire effective 1 September. Rod has enjoyed an impressive career with GM Holden, joining the company in 1972.
During his time with GM Holden he has overseen some extraordinary change, perhaps the most significant being the consolidation of the company’s domestic vehicle assembly operations from facilities across the country to a single vehicle assembly plant at Elizabeth, South Australia.
Rod became Assembly Plant Manager at Elizabeth at the age of 34 and in 1987, was instrumental in converting the plant from a single shift operation to double shift, representing a significant expansion in capacity.
