Sweden Takes Lead in Race to Reduce CO2
Sales of bioethanol cars reach 100,000.
2008-05-28 -- The market for E85 flex-fuelled cars is booming. Saab, the largest seller of flex-fuel cars in Europe, recently delivered the 100,000th flex-fuel car in the Swedish market – a Saab 9-3 BioPower. In fact, Saab BioPower models have been the main contributor to Sweden’s leading position in the switch to renewable fuels within Europe.
It took seven years to sell the first 300 flex-fuel cars in Sweden. Six years later there were 50,000 on the roads. An additional 50,000 flex-fuel cars have been sold during the last 15 months alone – proof that the market is truly expanding. GM Statement Regarding E85 Ethanol Cost-Benefit Analysis
2007-11-30 -- GM Statement from Alan Adler, manager, Biofuels Communications:
The cost-benefit analysis of E85 ethanol prepared by the Pardee Rand Graduate School and cited in the Friday, Nov. 30 edition of USA Today fails to take into account several positive factors of the renewable fuel made from 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline.
E85 is not yet widely available in the United States – less than 1 percent of fueling stations offer it today – and prices vary widely. Some gasoline stations peg the price of E85 to gasoline, so when gasoline goes up or down in price, E85 rides with it. Elsewhere, especially in regions where ethanol is more widely available, the price of E85 is as much as a dollar a gallon less.

General Motors Promotes E85 Ethanol Infrastructure in Pittsburgh
GM Partners with Fuel Producers and State to Grow Biofuels Awareness
2007-10-04, PITTSBURGH – If the 10,305 owners of General Motors (GM) E85 ethanol-capable vehicles in the Pittsburgh area refueled solely with E85 ethanol fuel, they could save an estimated 6.2 million gallons of gasoline every year. Millions of additional gallons of gas could be saved if all owners of flex-fuel vehicles regularly used mostly renewable E85.
Ethanol can be made from domestic resources that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the nation’s dependence on imported petroleum. Educating consumers about the use of E85 as an alternative to gasoline is the goal of GM’s E85 Fall Kick Off of the Fuel for Thought Tour.
