Retail Gasoline Price Slightly Lower, Diesel Price Sets Record
November 28, 2007 -- Many readers are familiar with Garrison Keillor’s phrase used on radio’s “A Prairie Home Companion” series, “Lake Wobegon, where all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average.”
EPA Grant Helps Cumberland County School System Reduce Children's Exposure to Diesel School Bus Emissions
(Atlanta, Ga. – November 20, 2007) Today, as part of EPA’s Clean School Bus USA program, the Southeast Diesel Collaborative presented a grant for $110,000 to the Cumberland County School Board to reduce diesel school bus emissions. Ninety school buses will be retrofitted with emission control devices aimed at reducing particulate emissions in the atmosphere and the school bus interior.
Cumberland County is undertaking the retrofits as part of a strategy of emissions reductions aimed at providing a safe healthy environment at schools and in the community. The County is the fourth largest district in North Carolina and currently transports over 25,000 students a day.

Heavy Duty Hailed as Cleanest Diesel-engine Pickup on the Market
Auburn Hills, Mich. - For 2008, the Dodge Ram Heavy Duty pickups benefit twice from an available 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel engine. One benefit is its power: 350 horsepower (261 kW) and 650 lb.-ft. (881 N•m) of low-end torque. Another benefit is its low emissions: 2008 Dodge Ram Heavy Duty pickups equipped with the 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel already meet federal emissions standards for 2010 – the only heavy duty pickups on the market to do so.
“Dodge Ram Heavy Duty owners need extraordinary power and capability,” said George Murphy, Senior Vice President – Global Brand Marketing, Chrysler LLC. “That is why more than 80 percent of our Dodge Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 sales are diesel-powered models. The 6.7-liter turbodiesel engine certainly fits the bill for incredible horsepower and torque, and, at the same time, astonishingly low emissions. But our customers want durability, too, and Dodge delivers that with the longest-lasting, most durable pickups on the market.”

Gasoline Prices Rise and Diesel Price Ties Record High
Retail Gasoline and Diesel Prices Move Higher
October 24, 2007 -- With oil prices recently reaching new nominal highs, some are interested in knowing how current prices for crude oil stand in relation to all-time record prices on an inflation-adjusted basis. A wide variety of measurements suggests that “record” inflation-adjusted prices for crude oil occurred in the early 1980s. However, there are two major issues when trying to arrive at an inflation-adjusted record crude oil price: 1) what historical price you use for crude oil, and 2) the price index used to adjust for inflation.
