AutoBild and auto motor und sport test new summer tyres

Hannover, March 18, 2008 -- The latest tests on summer tyres published by AutoBild and auto motor und sport (ams) rated the tyres produced by the Continental Corporation as "exemplary", "good" and "recommended". In particular the testers praised the tyres' excellent balance, good brake performance, secure handling characteristics on wet and dry roads combined with low rolling resistance. In the final ratings ContiSportContact 3 was classed as "exemplary", ContiCrossContact UHP and Barum Bravuris 2 were "recommended" and the new RainSport 2 from Uniroyal was classed as "good". ams awarded ContiPremiumContact 2 second place with a "recommended" rating.

03/12/2008, Hanover -- Continental's comprehensive range of SUV tires has been further expanded again this season. The leading German tire manufacturer now carries no fewer than six summer tire models for 4x4 vehicles. Many 4x4 manufacturers, including Audi, BMW, Land Rover, Mercedes, Porsche and Volkswagen, have already issued original equipment releases. Continental has 60 new sizes for 4x4 cars, SUVs and crossovers this year, with releases issued for speeds of up to 300 km/h.

More efficient designs and new manufacturing processes are helping Continental to develop lighter brakes and so reduce vehicle fuel consumption

As a result of carefully focused and detailed work, Continental has succeeded in developing new brakes which weigh between 10 and 40 percent less than before, depending on the individual components. This development can make a significant contribution towards reducing CO2 emissions because lighter vehicles use less fuel. The particular challenge when developing brakes which weigh less is not to compromise safety. Consequently, not every technically feasible weight reduction becomes a reality.

HANOVER and REGENSBURG, Germany, March 3, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- The international automotive supplier Continental will launch first-time volume production of a high-performance lithium-ion battery for hybrid vehicles at the end of the present year. Regensburg, January 18, 2008 -- A weak battery can easily give drivers a nasty surprise in the morning, particularly when temperatures drop: The car won’t start, because the starter doesn’t receive the needed power. The Intelligent Battery Sensor from Continental provides early warning when a battery is running down due to age, thereby preventing breakdowns. To accomplish this, it constantly determines the exact charge status of the vehicle battery. The sensor will go into series production in 2008. The sensor will then also help to reduce fuel consumption.
