World Mobility Forum: Mercedes-Benz receives an award for environmentally compatible drive technology

Ulm/Luxemburg -- Dec 18, 2007 -- The Setra Bus and Coach unit, Daimler AG's premium bus and coach brand, has built and delivered its 500th S 431 DT touring coach. The double-deck touring coach was handed over to the Luxembourg-based coach company "Voyages Demy Cars" in Ulm by the Head of Direct Foreign Sales, Michael Frey. The flagship of the Setra TopClass 400 touring coach model series first went into series production in 2003, and is now in service in a total of 25 countries.

Daimler expands its leadership position in the field of hybrid buses

Mississauga, Ontario, Canada -- Dec 17, 2007 -- Mississauga, Ontario – Daimler Buses North America has received orders totaling 1,052 Orion VII Next Generation diesel-electric hybrid transit buses from some of North America’s largest transit authorities.

MTA New York City Transit has ordered 850 and the City of Ottawa (OC Transpo) 202 Orion VII Next Generation diesel-electric hybrid transit buses. These buses will be powered by BAE Systems’ Hybri­Drive® diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system and delivered into 2010.

November 20, 2007 -- BEIJING, CHINA -- Cummins (NYSE: CMI) recently received an order of 1,000 Euro IV diesel engines from Beijing Public Transport Holdings Ltd. (BPT), and 900 Euro III diesel engines from Hangzhou Public Transport Corporation (HZPT). Hangzhou is the capital of Zhejiang Province in eastern China.

BPT’s most recent order comes in addition to its purchase of 1,400 Cummins Euro IV diesels and 250 Cummins Westport (a joint venture of Cummins and Westport Innovations) Euro III natural gas engines in the second quarter of 2007. With this new order, Cummins and Cummins Westport, will power more than 14,000 BPT buses – over half of the transit agency’s fleet.

Low-floor buses have become firmly established in European public transport systems and ZF is the company that pioneered the special axle technology for full-length, low-floor city buses. Passengers not only benefit from convenient entry and exit, waiting times at bus stops are also much shorter.

Low-floor technology has opened the door to a versatile, bus-based concept known as Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). The most outstanding example of this system is in Beijing, site of the 2008 Summer Olympics.

(Atlanta, Ga. – November 20, 2007) Today, as part of EPA’s Clean School Bus USA program, the Southeast Diesel Collaborative presented a grant for $110,000 to the Cumberland County School Board to reduce diesel school bus emissions. Ninety school buses will be retrofitted with emission control devices aimed at reducing particulate emissions in the atmosphere and the school bus interior.

Cumberland County is undertaking the retrofits as part of a strategy of emissions reductions aimed at providing a safe healthy environment at schools and in the community. The County is the fourth largest district in North Carolina and currently transports over 25,000 students a day.

Landmark coach to be used in Austria; S 411 HD club coach rounds off lower end of TopClass 400 range

Salzburg/Ulm -- Nov 21, 2007 -- Salzburg/Ulm. Setra Coaches, the premium coach brand of Daimler AG, has delivered its 500th S 411 HD coach. The customer, the "Fischwenger" coach company based in Straßwalchen near Salzburg, took delivery of this comfortable TopClass 400-series coach on November 2 in a special handover ceremony which was held in Salzburg on the occasion of the Setra Show 2007. The vehicle in question is a four-star coach whose equipment includes a galley, a video system and advanced navigation technology.
