Woodcliff Lake, NJ, June 2, 2008 -- Reflecting the sentiments of automobile consumers, on May 28 BMW was named the top leader of Strategic Vision's Total Quality Index™ in the categories of Best Brand and Luxury Utility for its 2008 X5 Sports Activity Vehicle. The San Diego research firm based its Total Quality Experience™ rankings on the ratings received by new vehicle owners in 19 product segments.

Capacity will increase to 240,000 vehicles by 2012

Spartanburg, USA, 03/10/2008 -- The BMW Group is investing US$ 750 million in an expansion of its Spartanburg plant. The move will raise production capacity from 160,000 to 240,000 units by 2012 and boost the company's total investment in the plant to US$ 4.2 billion. The plant will grow in size by 140,000 m² - or 60 per cent - to 370,000 m², and 500 new jobs will be created on site.

The expansion will also lead to a hike in purchase and export volumes into and out of the NAFTA region, which will contribute considerably to the BMW Group's natural hedging strategy.

Feb. 2008 -- The BMW X5 is the first SUV/SAV to offer active steering from ZF Lenksysteme, a 50:50 joint venture of Robert Bosch GmbH and ZF Friedrichshafen AG, as an option. The active steering system varies the ratio between steering wheel movement and front wheel angle. At slower speeds a slight turn of the steering wheel has a more pronounced effect on the steering response. The opposite is true at higher speeds.
