BMW Statement on Voluntary Recall Involving Front Passenger Seat Sensor Mat on U.S. BMW Models

08/13/2008 -- Today, BMW announced a voluntary recall regarding the front passenger air bag seat sensor mat involving approximately 200,000 Model Year 2004-06 vehicles. Affected are certain Model Year 2006 3-Series, Model Year 2004-06 5-Series, and Model Year 2004-06 X3 vehicles, depending upon seat type.

BMW has found that the sensor mat may become damaged during vehicle usage depending upon the manner and frequency of the front passenger's entry and exit.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ, August 4, 2008 -- Passaic County Technical Institute students got a glimpse of their future with the donation of a BMW 745i which will be used as a state of the art automotive teaching tool. The students are members of Automotive Youth Educational Systems (AYES), a nationwide partnership among automotive manufacturers, participating dealers, and selected high/prep schools. This event was highlighted when Passaic County Technical Institute received the vehicle Thursday, July 31, 2008 donated by BMW of North America, LLC (BMW NA) to the school at 11:00AM.

Munich, 08/04/2008 -- The main prerequisite for BMW's comeback to Formula One in 2000 was to generate synergies between F1 and series development. It was for this reason that development of the Formula One powertrain and electronics was integrated at the Munich plant, with the BMW Research and Innovation Centre (FIZ) playing a pivotal role. The F1 factory was set up less than a kilometre away from the think tank and the two formed a close network.

BMW Plans to Reduce Points Backlog in British WTCC Races

Munich, July 21, 2008 -- With two rounds being contested at the Brands Hatch Circuit, the FIA World Touring Car Championship this weekend moves into the second half of its current season. For the BMW national teams the event provides an opportunity to reduce their points’ gaps to the leaders of the Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ Championships respectively. That such an exercise is possible was recently proven by BMW Team UK’s Andy Priaulx (GB) in Estoril (PT). There the triple world champion was able to claw back nine points on leader Gabriele Tarquini to move up to fourth in the classification, having reduced his deficit to just 15 points.

To mark the 30th anniversary of the BMW M1, Warhol's BMW Art Car (1979) will again be taking to the starting grid. The setting for the celebration is the revival of the most spectacular stable trophy in racing history - the BMW M1 Procar series.

BMW Group US sales (BMW and MINI combined) down 11 percent in June. MINI sales continue to thrive

WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., July 1, 2008 -- The BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) today reported June vehicle sales of 26,155, a decline of 11 percent from the 29,394 vehicles sold in the same month of 2007. For the first six months of 2008, BMW Group sales are down 3.9 percent to 157,913 vehicles versus the 164,338 sold in the first half of 2007.

Magny-Cours, France, 06/23/2008 -- BMW Sauber F1 Team driver Robert Kubica scored four points by finishing fifth in the French Grand Prix and had to hand over the lead in the drivers’ championship to race winner Felipe Massa (Ferrari). Nick Heidfeld didn’t make it into the points this time as he came 13th in Magny-Cours. In the constructors’ championship the BMW Sauber F1 Team remains second.

Munich, 06/20/2008 -- For the second time in succession, the BMW 5 Series seizes first place in the J.D. Power study "Customer Satisfaction Index" (CSI) in the luxury vehicle segment. Moreover, the independent study on car customer satisfaction in Germany puts the 2008 BMW X3 in first position in the off-road category. In addition to this double success achieved by current models, BMW was able to win the brand ranking in vehicle quality and desirability. With this result, the premium car manufacturer once again underlines the exceptional status both its products and the BMW brand enjoys amongst German automobile purchasers.

BMW Museum Opened in Official Ceremony
