Fiat 500 Takes Part in Liege-Brescia-Liege 50 Years After Great Victory

Turin, April 9, 2008 -- Exactly 50 years on, a group of Fiat 500s will once again return to historic Liege in Belgium – leading a 10-day celebration of one of the greatest endurance rallies ever.

The Fiat 500s, dating from the 1950s, are part of a stunning entry list confirmed by organisers of this July’s Liege-Brescia-Liege rally which, in 1958 was unique. Then, the challenge comprised 3300km of gruelling roads, including treacherous mountain passes through the Alps, Dolomites and Yugoslavia, driven flat out – and all in cars of less than 500cc.

Volvo Cars Chooses Hydropower for Its Facilities in Sweden, Belgium

Jan 27, 2008 -- A systematic drive for green electricity is the latest measure adopted by Volvo Cars on its path to reach a climate-neutral production in Europe. The company now relies solely on hydropower from the electricity suppliers for its facilities in Sweden and Belgium.

"We aim to use renewable energy to the greatest possible extent and hydropower is the best alternative that our suppliers can offer at present," says Magnus Hellsten, Senior Vice President, Manufacturing at Volvo Cars.

Champ Car World Series To Appear on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC in 2008

January 17, 2008 -- The Champ Car World Series will appear exclusively on the ESPN networks in 2008 with a 14-race schedule combining live and same-day telecasts. The international open-wheel racing series returned to ESPN in 2007 after an absence of six years.

The schedule includes four races on both ABC and ESPN and six on ESPN2. The season begins Sunday, Apr. 20, with same-day coverage of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN2. The 2.5-hour telecast will include a season preview special.

Bentley Design Director Dirk van Braeckel Follows in Famous Footsteps

Crewe/Brussels, January 16, 2008 -- Dirk van Braeckel, director of design at Bentley Motors, has been awarded the prestigious European Automotive Design Award by Designers (Europe), in partnership with FEBIAC, the Belgian automotive industry association. Previous winners of the award, which honours excellence and originality in automotive design, include Giorgietto Giugiaro in 2004 and Sergio Pininfarina in 2006.

Appeal lodged by the Automobile Club d’Italia/Commissione Sportiva Automobilistica Italiana (ACI/CSAI) on behalf of its licence-holder Prema Power Team against a decision of the Belgian National Court of Appeal on 16 May 2007 in relation to an event run on 22 April 2007 in Zolder (Belgium) and counting towards the 2007 World Series by Renault Championship.

On 21 April 2007, the Stewards of the Meeting decided to exclude driver N°25 of the competitor Prema Power Team from the first race, as his car was not in conformity with the Technical Regulations (flat bottom and bodyshell had allegedly been modified).

Bentley Design Director Honoured with Prestigious Belgian Award

Crewe / Antwerp, 8 October 2007 -- Dirk van Braeckel, Director of Design for Bentley Motors, has been chosen as the 2007 laureate of Antwerp’s Christoffel Plantin award, which honours Belgian citizens whose cultural, artistic or scientific activities contribute to the country’s prestige abroad.

Past laureates of the award, which was founded in 1968, include world-renowned Belgian academics, doctors, lawyers and engineers, but this is the first time that a representative of the automotive industry has been honoured. Dirk van Braeckel will receive his award on October 8th from the Governor of Antwerp in the city’s Provincial House.
