Lamborghini is redefining the future of the super sports car with a unique technology demonstrator.
Boasting an extremely lightweight construction thanks to advanced carbon-fiber technology, the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento has an overall curb weight of just 999 kilograms (2,202 lb) – including V10 power unit and permanent all-wheel drive.
Cadillac has introduced the Urban Luxury Concept, a design study exploring a new type of vehicle that offers a luxury experience in a diminutive size.
The Cadillac Urban Luxury Concept complements its compact dimensions with the design, features and technology for which Cadillac is known.
“The Cadillac Urban Luxury Concept celebrates its scale with intelligent, innovative content that makes it unique regardless of its size,” said Clay Dean, Director of GM North American Advanced Design and Cadillac Brand Champion. “It has a small exterior footprint, but is roomy inside.”
The Cadillac Aera concept vehicle won the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show Design Challenge, tying with Smart and besting entries from seven other automakers including Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Nissan, Toyota and Maybach.
GM Advanced Design has now won the honor more times than any other design team; this is its third victory since 2005.
This is the seventh year for the contest, and this year designers were asked to envision the “1,000 lb. car” and tasked to imagine an efficient four-passenger vehicle that maintained comfort, safety, driving performance and style while not exceeding the weight requirement.
It was the star of the Frankfurt international motor show IAA in 2009: a four-seater sports car with charismatic design, fascinating performance figures and unsurpassed efficiency, powered by BMW ActiveHybrid technology and presented under the title BMW Vision EfficientDynamics.
With its wide range of completely or virtually production-ready components, this concept study met with an overwhelming response. There was a widespread desire to put the car on the road, and the realisation of this desire is moving considerably closer.
The 1980 Geneva Motor Show saw the debut of an automobile, whose name went on to become more than just a symbol for a long line of success by the manufacturer. The quattro from Audi is also the gold standard for the combination of winning motor sport qualities with the utmost in everyday practicality.
In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the debut of the quattro, Audi is presenting a show car at the 2010 Paris Motor Show that moves a futuristic interpretation of this concept into the fast lane: the Audi quattro concept, a thoroughbred driving machine with 300 kW (408 hp), five-cylinder turbocharged engine, a lightweight body and – of course – the latest generation of quattro permanent all-wheel drive.
The classic roadster is back – more powerful and more stylish than ever before. It is the BMW Z4, the only car in its segment that combines classic roadster proportions with a seating position moved close to the rear axle, rear-wheel drive and a retractable hardtop.
Having just introduced for the 2009 model year, the Z4 Roadster enters the 2010 model year with only two small refinements. HD Radio, with its improved sound quality and capacity for multicasting, is now standard. Automatic high beams are now available as an option for an added measure of convenience and safety.
Introduced to the world as a ground-breaking idea in the summer of 2008, the debut of BMW’s X6 Sports Activity Coupe was an immediate success that will no doubt continue with the 2010 model year.
This all-new addition to BMW’s very successful SAV line has redefined the very notion of a coupe—with five doors and four sculpted seats, a higher ride and loads of cargo space. It defies coupe conventions in one jaw-dropping look, combining coupe agility and SAV versatility, taking the coupe to a higher level.
Updates for the the 2010 model year include BMW’s 4th-generation iDrive controller and updated optional Navigation system (including high-resolution 8.8” center display and 80GB media server). The power-operated tailgate and HD radio become standard. The optional rear view camera has been enhanced to include a Top View perspective and Automatic High Beam, headlights are newly available as an option.
When the BMW X5 first appeared in 2000, it redefined the premium sport-utility vehicle segment and sent many competitors back to their drawing boards. This was BMW’s first light-duty truck that not only brought the newest in manufacturing and technology advances to consumers worldwide, it also introduced the “Sports Activity Vehicle®” concept that would later grow to include the 2004 X3, the second-generation X5 which was introduced for 2007 as well as the X6 Sports Activity Coupe.
The BMW SAV concept continues today and now includes the X5 xDrive35d, a diesel vehicle utilizing BMW Advanced Diesel with BluePerformance Technology, linking handling, performance and efficiency to the conventional attributes of practicality, versatility and off-road capability.
The legacy of BMW M GmbH began in 1985 when engineers placed the snarling, race-bred inline-6 engine from the M1 supercar into the production BMW 5 Series sedan, reworked the suspension and brakes, and created the first M5.
Through this industry-first combination of attributes, the M5 redefined the capabilities of a sedan with levels of power, precision, balance, and linear control never before imaginable.
At its introduction, the X3 offered something no one else could—a luxury-compact with the versatility and all-road capability of a sport-utility, combined with the quality, performance and handling of a BMW.
Compared to the large domestic and Japanese sport-utility vehicles then dominating the market, the X3 offered a smaller, more nimble, yet in many ways equally versatile alternative.
The X3 also introduced drivers to xDrive, BMW’s “intelligent” all-wheel-drive system that offers near-instantaneous torque apportioning with changing road conditions. Many competitors have since entered the segment pioneered by the BMW X3 but none have been able to match the dynamic handling and performance that mark this Sports Activity Vehicle® as an authentic BMW.
