GM Canada Provides Update on CAW Blockade

June 9, 2008 (Oshawa, ON) - General Motors of Canada today confirmed that, following ongoing discussions with the CAW over the past several days, it will take action today to seek collaborative or such necessary legal means required to end the ongoing blockade of its Canadian Headquarters allowing the company to reasonably continue conducting its business in Canada. GM Canada lost some vehicle production this past Saturday as a result of other CAW actions in Oshawa.

Program Enables Company to Restructure Workforce

DETROIT, Mich., 2008-05-29 – General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM) continued to transform its North American operations by announcing approximately 19,000 of its U.S. hourly employees have decided to take advantage of the company’s attrition program. Most of the employees participating in the program will leave the company no later than July 1, 2008.

GM will fill job openings with current employees whenever possible, as spelled out in the provisions of the GM/UAW national labor agreement. In facilities where GM needs new employees, those individuals would be hired in at the entry-level wage and benefit structure. The extent of the new hiring at each facility will be determined on a plant-by-plant basis.

CAW, Chrysler Open New Action Centre for Laid-Off Workers

TORONTO, May 21, 2008 -- The Canadian Auto Workers union and Chrysler Canada are hosting the official launch of a new action centre which will provide enhanced services and programs for the more than 1,000 workers laid off with the third shift closure at the Brampton Assembly Plant.

Workers and others will gather at the centre for the ceremony and open house today, May 21.

UAW Ratification Votes Scheduled at Detroit-area American Axle Locals

DETROIT, Sunday, May 18, 2008 -- UAW members at Detroit-area American Axle local unions will participate in ratification votes on the tentative agreement reached with American Axle according to the following schedule:

Members of UAW Local 262 will vote at their union hall on Monday, May 19, from 8 am to 5 pm.

Members of UAW Local 235 will vote at their union hall on Thursday, May 22, from 3 am to 7 pm.

Local union leaders and representatives from the office of UAW Vice President Jimmy Settles, director of the American Axle Department, will be at UAW Local 235 to answer questions regarding the tentative agreement from 9 am to 5 pm on Monday, May 19, Tuesday May 20 and Wednesday, May 21.

Contract Comes Four Months before Deadline

OAKVILLE, Ontario, May 4, 2008 – For the first time in its history, Ford Motor Company of Canada, Limited has reached a collective bargaining agreement with the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) more than four months before the current contract expires. Ford employees represented by the CAW ratified the new deal in a vote held today.

Highlights:
* Three-year collective bargaining agreement covering more than 9,000 employees reached after unprecedented bargaining process.
* Employees ratify the unique-to-Canada deal four months before the current contract expires on September 16, 2008.
* Base wages remain stable during the life of the contract and a 'new hire' wage rate is established for first three years of employment.

AAM-UAW Bargaining Resumes - Current UAW economic proposal is not market cost competitive

April 10, 2008 -- Negotiators representing American Axle & Manufacturing, Inc. (AAM) and the UAW met at the bargaining table for the first time in over three weeks on April 9, 2008. At this meeting, the UAW presented a new economic proposal to AAM.

Although it was a slight improvement from the UAW's previous bargaining positions, the all-in labor cost proposed by the UAW is still approximately 200% of the market rate of AAM's competitors in the United States automotive supply industry.

AAM expressed disappointment over the UAW's failure to make proposals that address the competitive reality AAM and its UAW-represented associates jointly face in the U.S. driveline marketplace.

Martorell, 18-02-2008 -- SEAT management has reached an agreement with the main trade unions UGT and CC.OO. regarding readmission of part of the workforce affected by the December 2005 labour force adjustment plan (Spanish ERE), for those who have expressed interest in returning to the company before the deadline for such expression elapsed.

Agreement was reached today during a meeting between SEAT Chairman Erich Schmitt and the secretaries general of the main trade unions UGT and CC.OO Matías Carnero and Manolo Gálvez respectively, who had informed the Chairman of the interest of the persons mentioned in returning to the company.

General Motors, UAW Reach Agreement on Comprehensive Special Attrition Program

2008-02-12, DETROIT - General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM) and the United Auto Workers (UAW) union have reached an agreement on a comprehensive special attrition program that will be offered to all of GM's 74,000 UAW-represented employees.

The special attrition program offers a choice of several pension and buyout incentives. GM is offering retirement pension incentives of $45,000 for production employees or $62,500 for skilled trades. Eligible employees can select from a variety of ways to receive their incentive:

* One time, lump-sum cash payment
* Direct rollover into their GM 401(k) or into an Individual Retirement Account (IRA)
* Monthly annuity
* Combination of partial lump-sum payment and direct rollover into their GM 401(k) or an IRA

CAW President Applauds Liberal Promise of Manufacturing Fund

TORONTO, Jan. 18 /CNW/ - CAW President Buzz Hargrove applauded an announcement by federal Liberal opposition leader Stéphane Dion to create a $1 billion fund to support manufacturing and promote green production if his party is elected to government.

He commended Dion for recognizing the important role the manufacturing sector plays in the health of the Canadian economy and for having the vision to invest in companies using new technologies to make Canada a leader in green manufacturing.
