Sweden Takes Lead in Race to Reduce CO2

Sales of bioethanol cars reach 100,000.

2008-05-28 -- The market for E85 flex-fuelled cars is booming. Saab, the largest seller of flex-fuel cars in Europe, recently delivered the 100,000th flex-fuel car in the Swedish market – a Saab 9-3 BioPower. In fact, Saab BioPower models have been the main contributor to Sweden’s leading position in the switch to renewable fuels within Europe.

It took seven years to sell the first 300 flex-fuel cars in Sweden. Six years later there were 50,000 on the roads. An additional 50,000 flex-fuel cars have been sold during the last 15 months alone – proof that the market is truly expanding. A joint strategy between central and local government, fuel producers, retailers and car manufacturers has been a key to this success.

Continental advocates consumer-friendly and all-inclusive labeling

Hanover, November 12, 2007 -- By means of various regulations, the EU intends to reduce both CO2 emissions and noise pollution from road traffic in the future. Also under discussion in this regard is an “environmental label" aimed at informing consumers about tire rolling resistance.

Michelin's Green Meters

Every second, around the world, Michelin’s green energy saving tires help to reduce fuel consumption and thus CO2 emissions

30/10/07 -- Beginning on October 30, 2007, giant meters will be projected in four major cities in today’s modern world — Berlin, New York, Paris and Shanghai. These meters will show in real time the fuels savings and reductions in CO2 emissions since 1992 — when this revolutionary technology was first introduced — thanks to Michelin’s low rolling resistance tires.

The FIA has called on the United Nations to adopt the first-ever worldwide target for CO2 emissions in passenger cars.

26.10.2007 -- At its General Assembly in Paris today, the FIA and its member clubs worldwide unanimously agreed to a Declaration which sets a global CO2 emissions benchmark of 140g/km for passenger cars as part of a new international framework for greener motoring.

The FIA’s new policy Declaration, entitled ‘Make Cars Green’, aims to help governments around the world work towards cost-effective environmental policies for the motor vehicle sector.

FIA President Max Mosley is calling for a coherent international strategy to reduce both the toxic emissions and the carbon intensity of the automotive sector.
