Skoda Auto to Manufacture 3,000 More Cars
Given ever-growing demand for Škoda cars, especially the Octavia model family, Škoda Auto will increase its manufacturing programme by 3,000 cars in the fourth quarter. The motor company has come to an agreement with the OS KOVO trade union on six extra night overtime shifts that will be run by the end of this year. The Octavia models enjoy the greatest interest worldwide including the Octavia Tour that is still sought after although it has been on the market for over nine years, which manifests how timeless the design of this car is. The first-generation Škoda Octavia car made its first public appearance at the Paris Motor Show in September 1996. Its lot manufacture started to the full in a newly built plant in Mladá Boleslav even the same year.
The Škoda Octavia Estate version was presented at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt (IAA) a year later and went on sale in 1998. The Octavia model became the basis for the first four-wheel drive Škoda car in the modern history of the brand – the Octavia Estate 4x4 was launched on the market in 1999 while the liftback version, in the spring of 2001.
The sports-tuned Octavia RS has been offered since 2000; it was in the summer of 2002 that it was followed by the Estate RS version.
The millionth unit of the Škoda Octavia range was manufactured on 17th February 2004, and 140,686 Tour model cars were produced over the last year while the new-generation Octavia cars were manufactured simultaneously (144,513 units).
