SEAT Produces Car Number 16 Million Since Its Beginnings

A SILVER SEAT LEÓN ECOMOTIVE MARKS THE MILESTONE

Martorell, 25-01-2008 -- Today unit number 16 million of the SEAT brand rolled off the assembly lines of the Martorell plant. The actual car was a silver-coloured SEAT León Ecomotive equipped with a 105 hp 1.9 TDI engine with particle filter (DPF), and is destined to be sold on the Spanish market. This vehicle emits only 119 g/km of CO2 and has an average consumption of 3.7 l/100 km in extra-urban cycle.

SEAT Chairman Erich Schmitt showed his satisfaction at the achievement. He particularly highlighted “the upward trajectory of the company´s production activities, not only because of technological advances but also the high quality in the products and processes and environmental protection. To this the entire workforce has made a particular contribution, being as they are increasingly involved in achieving premium quality”.

The first SEAT model –a 1400– that came off the assembly lines of the company in Barcelona´s Zona Franca on 13th November 1953. At that time, the more than 900 workers at the company managed a production rate of 5 cars per day. Currently, the company has a Basic workforce of 12,000 employees, including the staff at the SEAT Technical Center, and produces about 2,000 units daily at the Martorell plant.

Currently the Martorell factory produces all SEAT models, with the exception of the Alhambra, manufactured at the Volkswagen Group plant in Palmela (Portugal).

The celebration of this latest milestone comes at a very important moment for SEAT, immersed as it is in achieving the objectives laid down in its Strategy 2018, which envisages increasing sales volumes of the brand to 800,000 units.
