Formula BMW Americas Announces 2008 Schedule
Woodcliff Lake, NJ., January 17, 2008... Drivers entering the 2008 Formula BMW Americas Championship will face the most challenging and diverse schedule in the series' five year history.
Returning once again as the opening rounds for the Formula BMW Americas Championship, the historic Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California will launch the seven-weekend, 14 round championship in May. After featuring some of the strongest venues in North America, the championship will end in November with a maiden journey to Sao Paolo, Brazil in support of the Brazilian Grand Prix. The drivers participating in this season will have the chance to showcase their skills to the nearly every category of premier racing series in North America with races supporting Formula 1, the American Le Mans Series, the Champ Car World Series, the Rolex Sports Car Series, and, new for 2008, the ARCA RE/MAX Series.
After taking the green at Laguna Seca Raceway on May 16-18 during the Festival of Speed featuring the Champ Car World Series and the Rolex Sports Car Series, Formula BMW Americas will make its annual stop at the Canadian Grand Prix on June 6-8th. A second June date is being finalized. Next up will be the American Le Mans Northeast Grand Prix on July 11-12th at Lime Rock Park. The championship will revisit the Road America Grand Prix on August 8- 10th with the Champ Car World Series and American Le Mans Series.
The weekend of September 26-28th will see something completely new as Formula BMW Americas will be among the first series to visit the newly-opened New Jersey Motorsports Park's Thunderbolt Raceway in Millville, New Jersey. And, for the first time in Formula BMW history, the series will support stock car racing series, the widely popular ARCA RE/MAX Series.
Finally, the championship will rejoin the Formula One World Championship at the Brazilian Grand Prix on October 31 - November 2 for the conclusion of both championships.
Formula BMW Americas reflects the growth of Formula BMW worldwide. Formula BMW Germany and Formula BMW UK have combined championships to form Formula BMW Europe. Formula BMW Europe, Formula BMW Americas and Formula BMW Pacific will now comprise the new global face of Formula BMW.
