Starr Shines Bright in Martinsville Speedway Win
April 3, 2006Martinsville, VA - David Starr dominated the field in his No. 11 Red Horse Racing Tundra en route to the checkered flag in Saturday afternoon's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) race at the half-mile Martinsville Speedway track. Starr, driving in just his fourth race with the Red Horse team, took the lead just past the halfway point in the 250-lap event, and led the final 121 laps on his way to ‘Victory Lane.'
Starr, who joined Red Horse Racing at the start of this season, registered the 15th Craftsman Truck Series victory for Toyota since the beginning of the 2004 season (54 races), as well as his fourth career NCTS win. The Houston-native started 15th and worked his way through the field -- avoiding the record-setting 16 caution periods -- to earn the win.
"Jeff Hammond and Tom DeLoach (team owners) gave me the opportunity to drive for Red Horse Racing after last year ended," said Starr, following the race. "We struggled in the first three races (Daytona, California and Atlanta), but I told them to bear with me -- that I would catch up. We've had a good truck the first few races, but the driver just wasn't up to speed. Today, my Toyota Tundra was awesome."
"After qualifying 15th, I felt bad because I knew we had a better truck than that – and we definitely proved that during the race," added Starr. "It sure feels great to be here in ‘Victory Lane' at Martinsville. Any time you win a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race it's an honor because the series is so competitive, but it's even more special to win at this track."
Following Starr to the checkered flag were Toyota drivers Ted Musgrave (second), Mike Skinner (eighth) and Todd Bodine (12th).
The next race on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is at Gateway International Raceway outside St. Louis, April 29.
