Second country after Singapore to receive the Proton Persona sedan

Brunei, 8 April– PROTON revved up its export optimisation plans with the launch of Persona in Brunei. The sedan was launched by the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam, Dato Ku’ Jaafar Ku Shaari.

The PROTON Persona, which has been driving sales in the domestic market with over 35,000 bookings since its launch on 16 July 2007, was first exported to Singapore in October last year and is expected to be a key factor in PROTON’s export optimisation drive.

Brunei has been a good market for PROTON and the company sees it as a potentially strong growth market and is confident of Persona’s performance in the country.

“PROTON has consistently spoken about our new philosophy of the right car for the right market at the right price. This philosophy holds true in all our markets, and not just in Malaysia. The Persona is one of our ‘star’ performers and we are optimistic that it will be well received in the Brunei market as well,” said PROTON Holdings Bhd Managing Director, Dato’ Syed Zainal Abidin.

“One of Persona’s attractive features is its aerodynamic and advanced styling. This is enhanced by the elegant face design with exquisite front grille as well as stylish rear end and tail design. It is a car that will turn heads wherever it goes “

PROTON has had a presence in Brunei since 1999, through their sole distributor, Worldwide Motor Sdn Bhd, which was incorporated in Brunei on October 1998. The company has one showroom in Bandar and plans are in the pipeline to appoint 2 new dealers soon. To-date, from 2002, a total of 2,563 PROTON cars have been sold in Brunei.

Priced from BND$20,771 to BND$22,495 , the Persona is available in the manual transmission and 1.6 medium line automatic variant. The model comes in seven colours, namely iridescent white, metal gray, tranquillity black, solid red, light gold, blueberry tea and solid white.

The Persona holds promise of smooth drivability and ride comfort while boasting of fuel economy that is very competitive in the 1600 cc segment.

“With its competitive pricing, the model provides consumers in Brunei with more options in terms of driving experience and affordability. It’s a value for money sedan that was built with quality as its focus and customer satisfaction as its aim. The Persona is just the first in PROTON’s plans of continuously improving our product quality and offering more new models to our consumers worldwide,” said Syed Zainal.
