02/04/2008 -- Proton has announced the appointment of a new dealer to its national sales network with Pacific Proton being signed as the new sales and service outlet for the brand on the Sunshine Coast.

Based on Sugar Road in Maroochydore, Pacific Proton is part of the Pickering Automotive Group, a Queensland company that has built an enviable reputation in the motor industry throughout the Sunshine State.

Dealer Principal Craig McPherson says the Proton brand is an important addition to Pacific Motor Group's portfolio and will help the company fulfil the growing demand for economical and practical small cars.

"Proton's range of small cars represent great value and gives Pacific more options to sell economical yet exciting small cars in an atmosphere of increasing fuel prices and increasing demand for fuel efficient vehicles," said Mr McPherson.

"Proton's close ties with Lotus really sets it apart from other small car brands. It adds a degree of prestige and obviously the handling and engineering is a vital factor in creating cars that can handle and perform better than other economy models," he said.

"I strongly believe the Proton Jumbuck will be extremely popular here on the coast because it provides the sort of solid and practical yet extremely economical workhorse that tradesmen are looking for while farmers in the hinterland are going to really go for it," he added.

"The range of Proton passenger cars including the Savvy, Gen 2, Satria and soon to be released Persona are going to really appeal to sunshine coast customers who are seeking a fun car that is economical to buy and run," Craig said.

Pacific Proton will be based at 133 Sugar Road in Maroochydore as part of the larger Pacific Motor Group which includes dealerships for five other brands and facilities throughout the Sunshine Coast including operations at Currimundi, Kawana, Maroochydore, Nambour and Noosa.

The Pacific Motor Group employs more than 120 staff across the Sunshine Coast while the strength of the Pickering Group with eight dealerships across Queensland and the Northern Territory employing more than 500 gives added backing to the organization.

As Dealer Principal, Craig McPherson brings many years of experience both in the motor industry and in chartered accountancy as a partner in a major Brisbane practice for more than nine years.

Proton Cars Australia managing director, John Startari, said the appointment of Pacific Motor group as Proton dealers on the Sunshine Coast will form an important addition to the company's burgeoning national dealer network.

"This appointment is part of a concerted effort to ensure its dealer network in Australia is strong, offers top level service and the best possible coverage across the country.

"Craig McPherson and his team have the right credentials and they met the very stringent selection criteria Proton uses to select new dealers for our sales network," said Mr. Startari.

"Pacific has shown its professionalism with other key franchises on the Sunshine Coast and have the runs on the board so we are confident Proton is in good hands in the region," he said.

"With a large number of Sunshine Coast residents having to travel longer distances on a day to day basis the cost of fuel is becoming an increasingly important issue for all urban and rural motorists and Proton presents a real and practical solution for many buyers," said John Startari.

"Fuel costs are really having an impact on everybody, however Protons combine a low purchase price with minimal running costs which means they'll have appeal to a wide range of buyers up and down the coast," he said.

Proton's dealer network currently stands at 42 nationally and will continue to expand this year with a number of other new locations expected to come on stream in over the coming months.
