Innovative installation solutions from Blaupunkt

April 2008 -- Portable navigation systems are becoming increasingly popular; they are small, very useful and quite affordable. In contrast to navigation devices that are permanently installed in the vehicle, it has not always been easy to find the right spot for the more compact guides. After all, portable navigation systems are usually stuck on the windshield with a suction cup or mounted on the dash. And of course, there are also screw-on and clamp connections to the dash itself as well as gooseneck mounting solutions near the console.

Highlights:
· Stable device mount instead of suction cup or gooseneck
· Reliable click-in makes for excellent in-vehicle integration
· Attractively priced universal solution for retrofitting in standard DIN compartments

However, using a suction cup can obstruct the driver's view, installing such a device near an airbag poses an increased risk of injury in the event of an accident and driving vibration often makes it difficult to read the display. Last, but certainly not least, such highly visible installation solutions also attract the attention of thieves.

Good in-vehicle integration of portable navigation
With a solution as elegant as it is innovative, Blaupunkt has now eliminated all these disadvantages and has more or less combined the advantages of portable navigation devices with the standards of permanently installed solutions. The key to success lies in a new type of holder, in which Blaupunkt has invested decades of competence with respect to in-vehicle device integration. A so-called Smart Button, which is glued to the back of the navigation device, guarantees an easy click-in and reliable lock. The device will remain securely in its holder even if the vehicle is hit from behind, so that it does not pose any danger to the passengers. The new Blaupunkt holder system also makes it possible to neatly hide away the wiring, which gives the installation of the Portable Navigation Devices (PND) a more permanent look.

For everyone: retrofitting in an empty DIN compartment
Many vehicles today have a double DIN compartment in the dash but are only equipped with a radio in the regular DIN format. The second part of the compartment then usually serves as a simple storage shelf. And this is exactly the clientele that the clever new Blaupunkt navigation device holder is going for on the aftermarket. This variant can be particularly quickly and easily integrated into the vehicle and is practically invisible from the outside. And there is even a small storage compartment left over.

The patent-pending foldaway holder automatically folds out forward when the side flap is opened and is also equipped with a turn-and-swivel mechanism so that the navigation devices can be clicked into different positions for the adjustment of different viewing angles and easy operation. In this case, it is also ideal to stick the Smart Button on the back of the device to securely lock it into place. An adapter makes it possible to connect such other portable devices as players or cell phones. And thanks to integrated cable guides, the connection wiring can also completely disappear – on the whole a very elegant, attractively priced solution for any do-it-yourselfer.
