• Forester meets all Federal passenger car safety standards and achieved the highest rating (“good”) in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) frontal-offset and sideimpact crash tests.

What’s New for 2008

• Turbo models equipped with optional automatic transmission now feature the Variable Torque Distribution (VTD) version of Symmetrical AWD, along with Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) stability system and traction control.

• Revisions to exterior and interior trim on Forester Sports models include STI-style front bumper, black painted surrounds for headlights and tail lights, new 6-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels, silver-painted roof rails and leather wrapped shifter and parking brake handle.

• Forester Sports 2.5 XT, in addition to changes on Sports 2.5 X, also gains body-color roof spoiler with LED high-mount stop lamp and 17-inch 10-spoke STI-style alloy wheels.

• L.L.Bean model gains standard auto-dimming rear-view mirror with HomeLink feature, plus rear cargo area carpeting and a standard cargo accessory tray.

• Audio system with seven upgraded speakers, including subwoofer, featured in Forester Sports models and L.L.Bean Edition as standard.

Key Facts • All Forester models are equipped with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive: Models with the 5-speed manual transmission feature a viscous coupling locking center differential that distributes power 50:50 front to rear. Naturally aspirated models with 4- speed automatic transmission (except turbo models) use an electronically managed continuously variable transfer clutch to actively control power distribution. Turbo models with optional 4-speed automatic transmission feature Variable Torque Distribution (VTD), which uses an electronically controlled hydraulic transfer clutch and a planetary gear-type center differential to control power distribution between the front and rear wheels. VTD normally splits the power 45:55 for enhanced agility. All systems are full-time and can transfer more power to the wheels with the best traction.

• Standard safety features include a 4-channel/4- sensor Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), dualstage deployment driver’s and passenger advanced front air bags, standard front seat head/chest side-impact air bags, active front seat head restraints and front seatbelts with pre-tensioners and belt force limiters.

• Seating for five; cargo capacity behind rear seat is 30.7 cu. ft. and expands to 68.6 cu. ft.

with the rear 60/40 split rear seatbacks folded down (28.9/64.5 cu. ft. in models with moonroof).

• Robust body structure and heavy-duty raised 4-wheel independent suspension make Forester models fun to drive while preserving a smooth, quiet ride and off-pavement driving ability.

• Hill Holder system in models with 5-speed manual transmission helps make starting off on an incline easier and safer.
