Ford Taurus, one of America’s favorite midsize family cars, continues to be available in sedan and station wagon body styles for 2005. Taurus was founded on safety, comfort, value and reliability and for 2005, continues to deliver in every one of these areas.

Design and Equipment

Taurus is available in two body styles: a four-door sedan that seats five or six passengers and a four-door, seven- or eight-passenger station wagon. The sedan and wagon are both available in two trim series: SE and SEL, which have been simplified from four series in 2004.

The egg-crate grille and front and rear fascia clearly represent the Ford brand image. These aerodynamic styling cues are contemporary and continue to drive Taurus’ upscale appearance. The refined styling touches demonstrate the Taurus team’s commitment to craftsmanship and quality.
Powertrain and Chassis

All Taurus models have V-6 power. The 3.0-liter Vulcan V-6 is a rugged overhead-valve engine with 153 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque. A flexible fuel version of this engine is available for SE and will be available later in the model year for SEL. The optional 3.0-liter Duratec 30 V-6 uses dual overhead cams to produce 201 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque.

A four-speed automatic transmission with adaptive shift control programming is standard on all models. Taurus is front-wheel-drive, with variable-assist power rack-and-pinion steering.

The ride from Taurus’ suspension system is secure, confident and well-controlled. Sedan models use an independent MacPherson strut front suspension and quadralink rear suspension; wagons have a short- and long-arm rear suspension with nitrogen-pressurized shocks and progressive-rate springs, which help maintain comfort through a range of loading levels. Wagon models also have four-wheel disc brakes.
Safety

Parents magazine and AAA selected the Taurus wagon as one of the best vehicles for families. Reviewers liked that the Taurus comes standard with Ford’s Personal Safety System™ with second-generation dual-stage air bags.

Taurus is rated a "Best Pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in its offset frontal crash test.
Major Equipment and Options

SE: Power windows with driver side one-touch down, programmable power door locks, folding power mirrors, AM/FM cassette stereo, six-passenger seating, air conditioning with cabin air filter, 3.0-liter V-6 Vulcan engine, automatic speed control, remote keyless entry, driver message center and intermittent wipers.

SEL adds: Remote keyless entry with driver’s door keypad, approach lamps, seven-spoke aluminum wheels, AM/FM stereo with single-CD, compass and exterior temperature display, auto-dimming rearview mirror, perimeter anti-theft system, six-way power driver’s seat with manual lumbar adjustment, illuminated visors, Homelink™ door opener and wood grain interior accent trim.

The Duratec 30 V-6 engine and Mach audio system with six speakers are optional on SEL models. SE Preferred Equipment Package: Five-spoke aluminum wheels, rear spoiler (sedan), power driver’s seat and 60/40 split-folding rear seat (standard on wagon).

SEL Premium Package: Six-disc CD changer with AM/FM cassette stereo, electronic climate control, leather seating surfaces, rear spoiler (sedan), power adjustable passenger seat and automatic headlamps.

Safety and Security Package: Front seat mounted side impact air bags, anti-lock brakes and traction control.
