SIAM: October Indian Sales Show Sign of Recovery But Not Good Enough

The figures for April-October 2007 over April-October 2006 indicate that domestic sales of automobiles decelerated with a negative growth rate of 5.00 percent.
The cumulative growth of the Passenger Vehicles segment during April-October 2007 was 13.45 percent. Passenger Cars grew by 13.38 percent, Multi Purpose Vehicles by 20.08 percent and Utility Vehicles by 11.31 percent in April-October 2007 compared to the same period last year.
In April-October 2007, the Commercial Vehicles segment grew by 4.37 percent over the same period in 2006. Light Commercial Vehicles recorded a growth of 16.38 percent; however, Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles witnessed a fall by 3.93 percent. Bus segment registered a growth of 39.89 percent while truck segment registered a marginal decline of 0.27 percent. This is mainly because of fall witnessed by Medium & Heavy trucks segment by 10.74 percent in this period.
Three Wheelers sales fell by 5.98 percent with sales of Goods Carriers decreasing by 16.19 percent and Passenger Carriers grew at a modest rate of 1.41 percent during the period.
Two Wheeler sales registered a negative growth of 8.46 percent during April-October 2007 over April-October 2006. Though Mopeds and Scooters grew by 22.35 percent and 19.57 percent respectively, Motorcycles and Electric Two Wheelers registered a negative growth rate of 13.68 percent and 29.66 percent respectively.
Exports
Automobile Exports grew by 17.76 percent during April-October 2007 over the same period last year.
Exports were led by Two Wheelers which grew by 24.13 percent, followed by Commercial Vehicles exports at 17.47 percent and Three Wheelers exports at 8.86 percent. Passenger Vehicles Exports improved marginally with a growth rate of 2.58 percent.
