Tony Hyde Announces Retirement from Holden
2007-10-01 -- Tony Hyde, Executive Director, Engineering at GM Holden will retire on 31 December 2007 after more than 39 years of service to General Motors.
"Tony has shown outstanding service to Holden, General Motors and the automotive industry," said Holden's Chairman and Managing Director, Chris Gubbey.
"Throughout his career, Tony has been involved in many of Holden's most respected programs. From HQ Holden, through to the first Commodore and the ground breaking Monaro, Tony has been a principal figure in Australia's automotive history.
"Capping off his career with the multi award winning VE and WM programs, Tony has successfully guided and led Engineering with passion and pride in the product," said Gubbey.
Tony Hyde began with Holden in July 1968 as a Technical Report Writer in Experimental Engineering. Throughout his time at Holden, he has held several roles within the Engineering organisation, including three overseas postings.
His early career saw a two year scholarship to General Motors Institute in Michigan in 1971 where he was subsequently awarded a GM Overseas Fellowship. This was followed a few years later by a two year assignment with Opel in Germany.
After a brief interlude in 1984 in the role of Manager, Technical Services, Tony was promoted to Chassis Transmission and Drive Train Engineer, which led to the role of Manager, Mechanical Engineering in 1986.
A series of other engineering and planning roles within Holden saw Tony expand the breadth of his experience. In August 1997 he was promoted to the position of Director, Engineering and Design at GM Holden before taking on his current position as Executive Director, Engineering in 2000. In 2002, he was also appointed to the HSV Board.
An announcement on Tony's successor will be made in the coming days.
