Winter Tires?

Just read about those Blizzak tires from Bridgestone/Firestone. They sound pretty good and I'm in need of some new ones.

Anybody have a scoop on these? (The wife likes the penguins in the ads, so she's for it...ugh)

Winter driving is not just about driving on snow, it is about grip under all road and atmospheric conditions. Here in the GTA that means mostly cold dry pavement. As temperatures drop below 6C to 7C, your all-season tires start to lose grip, while winter tires gain grip. Safety technologies like electronic stability control, traction control and anti-lock brakes aren't much use on icy roads without winter tires
