Automobile propulsion technology under development include gasoline/electric and, battery electric vehicles, hydrogen cars, bio fuels and various alternative fuels. Research into future alternative forms of power include the development of fuel cells, Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition, Stirling engined, and even using the stored energy of compressed air or liquid nitrogen.

H2O gas is safer as compared to other hydrogen applications in vehicles. In other applications, hydrogen gas is stored in vehicle tanks as it has low density. The weight of the tank itself eats up lot of energy and there is a possibility of explosion. But H2O is burned as it is used and there is no need to store hydrogen negating the chance of an explosion.
