Turin, 7 November 2007 -- Just a few months after its commercial launch in Latin America, the Fiat Grande Punto has been awarded the prestigious “Auto Interamericana 2008” prize.

Organised since 2001 by the Interamerican Federation of Automobile Journalists (FIPA), the “Auto Interamericana 2008” was assigned by 63 journalists from 19 American countries, including Brazil and the United States, which gave the Grande Punto 91 points out of the 133 available. The importance of the contest is shown by the models in contention and which the new Fiat preceded: the Mercedes Class C, Mitsubishi Lancer, Volvo C30, Nissan Sentra and Audi A5.

Produced in Brazil and presented last August in Argentina, the Grande Punto was conceived and produced to be the new benchmark in terms of design, safety, quality and comfort, apart from offering the sophisticated Blue&Me system, which sets new standards of on-board communication and entertainment.

The “Auto Interamericana 2008” award ceremony will take place on 21 November in Panama. The trophy joins the two titles already assigned by the Top Car TV jury made up of journalists of TV car programmes broadcast in Brazil: “Best national car with higher than 1,001 cc capacity” and “Best product advertising” with the commercial “Bola de Cristal”.
