Federal-Mogul’s Champion Brand Powers Two Straight NASCAR Sprint Cup Wins
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., March 11, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Federal-Mogul Corporation’s Champion® spark plugs helped power Carl Edwards and the #99 Ford to consecutive wins in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Auto Club 500 in Fontana, California, and UAW-Dodge 400 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Champion-sparked #99 Ford charged to a .504-second margin of victory following a restart with just two laps remaining in the UAW-Dodge 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. One week earlier, Edwards’ race to victory in the Auto Club 500 in Fontana, Calif., came 21 hours after the start due to a series of weather-related delays. The final 163 laps were run on Monday morning, with the #99 Ford clearly the most powerful on the track.
“Champion spark plugs have powered hundreds of victories and dozens of championships in NASCAR, Formula 1 and other motorsports series,” said Tim Nelson, director of motorsports for Federal-Mogul. “We are very excited about our success in the early part of the season but, like the Roush Fenway team, we’re already looking ahead to the next race. Champion engineers transfer this valuable on-track experience to develop the most advanced spark plug products for the everyday driver.”
Throughout its 101-year history, Federal-Mogul’s Champion brand has helped provide the performance and reliability needed to power engines of nearly every size and type. This heritage of racing success and engineering leadership is celebrated on the brand’s global Web site, alwaysachampion.com.
