Clean Diesel With BLUETEC

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

Will new opportunities arise for the automotive industry from India’s IT and service sectors? What will the environment-friendly and luxurious touring sedan of the future look like? What career lies ahead of the BLUETEC diesel? These and other fascinating questions will be answered in the new HTR HightechReport of Daimler AG as from tomorrow.

At www.daimler.com/innovation, the redesigned technology magazine will from now on offer additional articles and in-depth reports online. By accessing the HTR Online knowledge portal, you will find the new edition with an exclusive interview with US economist Jeremy Rifkin about his vision in energy politics, as well as with workshop talks about trends in infotainment and telematics.

India - a tiger on the go

India has 35 cities each with over a million inhabitants, and a total population of over 1.1 billion people. The population is growing and with it the economy. As a result, India has changed significantly over the last few years - from an agrarian country to a service-rendering society. Daimler’s futurologists have developed methods for appraising the development of markets and, in the case of India, the impact of vigorous economy growth on the motor industry.

F 700 research car

Ecologically responsible mobility with the highest levels of comfort and a superior powertrain - with their latest research car, the Daimler engineers demonstrate how fuel economy and low CO2 emissions can be reconciled with the generous dimensions of a sedan. The heart of the powertrain is the novel DIESOTTO which combines the advantages of low-emission gasoline engines with the fuel economy of diesel engines. Over and above this, the F 700 research car - like its predecessors - incorporates numerous innovative and well-thought-out solutions for the future, among them the suspension and the display and operating concept.

Time for a blue hour

The highly complex BLUETEC technology operates silently, invisibly and impressively effectively. It is making the diesel engine as clean as a gasoline engine with respect to all pollutant constituents – without any reductions in efficiency and fuel economy. The technological key to this achievement lies in a package consisting of engine modifications, a modular system for exhaust gas aftertreatment and a well-thought-out operating strategy. BLUETEC has been available for commercial vehicles for two years already. In the E 300 BLUETEC, this technology made its European debut in the passenger car in September this year; in the USA, it has been in the market since October 2006. With BLUETEC models of the ML-, R- and GL-Class, which will undercut the specified EURO VI limits, the BLUETEC family will continue to grow and become available in other markets as well.
