"I am very pleased that PSA Peugeot Citroën recognized Alcan's bumper system for the benefits it gives to the Citroën C4 Picasso," said Wolfgang Schmitz, President, Alcan Engineered Automotive Solutions. "The bumper system improves crash energy management due to aluminum's superior energy absorption qualities, and at the same time reducing weight and improving vehicle performance," he added.
Produced at Alcan's Automotive Structures plant in Gottmadingen, Germany, the bumper system is exclusively designed for the Citroën Grand C4 Picasso, which premiered at the 2006 Paris Motor Show, and the Citroën C4 Picasso, which will be launched in Q1, 2007.
The bumper's crash management system is composed of six welded parts, and its innovative crash boxes use tailored extrusions to provide high energy absorption and light-weighting.
Since opening in 1999, Alcan's Gottmadingen site has rapidly expanded, with 17 bumper lines in operation today. The site produced more than three million bumper systems and side-impact beams, and more than one million instrument panel supports in 2005. Customers include Audi, BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Jaguar, Opel, PSA Peugeot Citroën and Volkswagen.
Alcan Automotive Structures has four production sites in Europe, North America and a partnership in Asia.
