Last year in September, at the International Motor Show (IAA) Cars in Frankfurt, Behr GmbH & Co. KG, systems partner to the international automobile industry, showcased another world first: the comfort vent. This innovation provides for the very first time draft-free and individually adjustable airflow through the vehicle cabin, without taking up any additional space.

Behr’s groundbreaking product is to make its debut in a premium-class vehicle. “The comfort vent represents an entirely new ventilation concept that further enhances climate comfort in the vehicle interior. It is the ideal response to one of the most frequently expressed concerns about air conditioning, accommodating as it does the demand for draft-free ventilation”, explains Klemens Schmiederer, Behr Management Board member responsible for the Air Conditioning Product Division. “Thanks to the draft-free airflow, the surface of the skin is significantly less prone to drying out, thus improving passenger well-being, especially during long journeys”.

The comfort vent differs from conventional vents in that instead of one, there are two air ducts: a helical diffused-flow duct and a centered spot flow duct. This means that passengers can now choose between three different airflow options.

* Diffused flow: the airflow is spread over a wide area. The passenger enjoys completely draft-free ventilation.
* Spot flow:concentrated airflow, focused on a single point.
* Combined spot and diffused flow:the two basic spot and diffused flow functions can also be combined as desired to meet each passenger’s individual comfort needs.
