Visteon's David Hung to Receive SAE Standards Award for Work in Automotive Fuel Sprays
WARRENDALE, Pa., Oct. 19, 2007 - David L.S. Hung of the Visteon Corporation is the recipient of SAE International's Henry Souther Standards Award. He will be presented the award during the SAE Powertrain & Fluid Systems Conference in Rosemont, Ill., Oct. 29-31.
The award, established in 2001, acknowledges accomplishments in standards development in the areas of environmental studies, safety, materials, testing and emissions.
This award is funded through the SAE Foundation. In addition to supporting the awards, recognition and scholarship programs of SAE International, the SAE Foundation develops and funds programs and incentives that foster student interest in engineering, scientific and technical education.
Hung is being recognized for leading a task force that includes an industry-wide team of automotive fuel system and spray measurement experts to develop the new SAE J2715 Recommended Practice. This document establishes a common ground to standardize the measurement procedure and reporting methods for fuel injector spray characteristics.
Hung is a Technical Fellow in the powertrain electronics product group at the Visteon Corporation, where he is responsible for the development of advanced powertrain systems and technologies and emerging technologies with alternative fuels. Prior to joining Visteon, he worked at Delphi Corporation in the development and implementation of laser diagnostics for gasoline fuel injection spray and fuel mixture measurements.
A member of SAE International since 1998, Hung is a vice-chair of the SAE Gasoline Fuel Injection Standards Committee. He is also a recipient of the 2006 SAE Technical Standards Board Outstanding Contribution Award. Hung holds seven patents for fuel injector devices and has published numerous SAE technical papers in the area of advanced propulsion. He is also a member of the Institute for Liquid Atomization and Spray Systems and serves on the editorial board of the journal Atomization and Sprays.
Hung earned his bachelor's degree with distinction in mechanical engineering from the Iowa State University of Science and Technology and his master's and doctorate degrees in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. He resides in Novi, Mich.
