In Cooperation with Don Bosco College, Continental Improves Employee Training at Continental Temic Electronics in Calamba
Calamba/Hanover, October 15, 2007 -- Continental AG has established the Continental University Campus Calamba at their Calamba plant in the Philippines, in cooperation with the Don Bosco College. After Manila, the campus is the international automotive supplier’s second Continental University in the Philippines, and one of seven campuses currently established worldwide.
"Excellent education and training are essential to company success, particularly in high-tech companies," remarked Continental Human Resources Director Heinz-Gerhard Wente at the opening ceremony in the Don Bosco College facilities, Calamba. "With the aid of the Continental University, we will definitely continue increasing productivity and quality at the Calamba unit."
Continental's Universities aim at providing a broad range of in-depth qualification and support measures for employees without a university degree. This enables employees to maximize their personal potential, with the associated increase in productivity helping them to make an even greater contribution to reaching company goals.
The Continental University is available to any of the 463 employees of Continental Temic Electronics in Calamba who are willing to show initiative and interest in lifelong learning. In cooperation with the Don Bosco College, students are taught specialized subjects related to industrial automation. Per year, up to 15 employees can participate in the four-semester / two-year education, free of charge.
The students learn all about fully-automated systems two days a week at Don Bosco College. The course focuses on combining electrical and mechanical processes, and the subjects taught are based on the mutual needs by the company and the employees to adapt to rapid technological progress. On successful completion of the course, all participants receive a diploma.
The leading international automotive supplier is represented in the Philippines by Continental Temic Automotive (Phils.), Inc., Manila, and Continental Temic Electronics Philippines Inc., Calamba. The plants produce electronic brake systems, interior electronics and sensor clusters.
In addition to the two Continental University campuses in the Philippines, the international automotive supplier cooperates with five other colleges in Mexico, Romania and the USA. Further four campuses are currently being planned for these countries.
The Continental Corporation is a leading automotive supplier of brake systems, chassis components, vehicle electronics, tires and technical elastomers. In 2006, the corporation realized sales of EUR 14.9 billion. At present, it has a worldwide workforce of around 89,000.
