Dieter Rogge Heads Continental's Powertrain Division
Powertrain's objective is to reduce emissions and enhance comfort and driving pleasure
Regensburg, Jan. 17, 2008. Dieter Rogge is the head of Continental's new Powertrain Division which employs around 27,000 people. With more than 60 sites throughout the world, the Division is one of the three new automotive divisions within Continental, the international automotive supplier. Powertrain brings together innovative and efficient system solutions affecting every aspect of a vehicle's drive train and is divided into the following business units: Gasoline Systems, Diesel Systems, Electronics, Transmission, Sensors, Hybrid Electric Vehicle, Turbochargers and Actuators, Motor Drives & Fuel Supply.
"With our enhanced development and systems expertise, the Powertrain Division is ideally positioned to meet the challenges of the future", stresses Dieter Rogge, the Division's head. "By integrating the activities of the former Siemens VDO Automotive, we will be making a significant technological leap forward, for example in the area of hybrid drives, and will catch up with our competitors. We now have a huge opportunity of becoming the world's best automotive supplier. And alongside these technical innovations, we will remain focused on quality and cost."
In Rogge's opinion, motoring should become more environmentally friendly and yet remain affordable. "At the same time, we want to enhance both comfort and driving pleasure," says Rogge. "To achieve this, we offer our customers a complete portfolio of high-quality systems and components – from gasoline and diesel systems including sensors, actuators and tailor-made electronics, via fuel supply systems, engine management and transmission control units, to components and systems for hybrid drives."
Dieter Rogge was born in Bremen and began his professional career in 1964 with an apprenticeship at Siemens. After studying electrical engineering, he worked as a development and test engineer at Siemens in Regensburg. In 1976, he moved to Caracas in Venezuela, working as an installation and low-voltage engineering expert for four years, before returning to Germany in 1980 to the international sales and marketing function of the Siemens installation engineering business unit. Between 1985 and 1990, he helped to build up the Siemens AG automotive engineering business unit in Regensburg. This was followed by various career steps at managerial level, including at DaimlerChrysler/Temic. Most recently, Rogge was responsible for the Powertrain & Chassis business unit at Continental's Automotive Systems Division before returning to Regensburg this year as head of the Powertrain Division. Dieter Rogge is married and has three daughters.
