BorgWarner DualTronic™ Wet Clutch Technology Makes Its India Debut

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Jan. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BorgWarner's (NYSE: BWA) fuel-efficient DualTronic™ wet dual-clutch module technology, the popularity of which continues to grow in Europe, is standard on the Skoda Laura. The vehicle was displayed at the 2006 Auto Expo in Delhi this week and is currently being launched in India. The Skoda Laura is also equipped with a 1.9-liter direct-injection diesel engine that uses a BorgWarner turbocharger.

BorgWarner DualTronic™ is an industry-first technology for automated transmissions. It enables a conventional manual gearbox to function as a fully automatic transmission while improving emissions and delivering fuel economy improvements of up to 15 percent over traditional automatics, depending on the application. The technology also eliminates the "torque- interrupt" feeling that occurs when a manual or automated manual transmission shifts gears, enabling a smooth, yet sporty, fun-to-drive vehicle performance. BorgWarner DualTronic™ technology was recognized for superior innovation and technological advancement as an Automotive News 2005 PACE Award winner.

Total BorgWarner DualTronic™ technology programs announced to date represent about 1.5 million transmissions per year at full production volumes. The company expects the demand for this type of technology to grow to 25 percent of the European passenger car market by 2015.
