International Motor Show for Commercial Vehicles 2006 – Continental Automotive Systems Delivers 'Economical Mobility'
New systems for lower running costs, less time off the road and reduced fuel consumption as well as cleaner exhaust gases, improved safety and increased comfort.
Hannover / Frankfurt, 7 August 2006. At the International Motor Show for Commercial Vehicles in Hannover, Continental Automotive Systems is showcasing new technologies on the theme of 'Economical Mobility'. These innovations have been designed to improve comfort, safety and economy in commercial vehicles ranging from vans to heavy-duty trucks. The following product highlights can be seen at the Continental AG stand, located in Hall 17 / B11:
QDiS oil diagnosis system increases oil change intervals and protects against wear
The quality diagnosis system QDiS is a new sensor system for monitoring the oil condition. It generally extends oil change intervals and also prevents wear and engine failures by continuously monitoring the quality of the oil. QDiS reduces expensive out-of-service time and helps retain the value of the vehicle.
Fourth-generation engine management – optimized fuel consumption and cleaner exhaust gases
The new generation of control units for medium and heavy-duty engines is designed to meet the up-coming strict emission standards, such EPA (Environmental Protection Agency, USA) 2007, Japan 09 and Euro 6. They can also help reduce fuel consumption. The new electronic platform can be integrated into 12 and 24-volt onboard networks and is capable of controlling all conventional injection systems.
Air spring damping – improved comfort and handling for vans
Building on existing air suspension systems, the new spring and damping function is integrated into a compact rear-axle module, which is also suitable for underfloor installation. Suspension and dampening adjust automatically to the vehicle load, thereby improving comfort and handling in light commercials, minibuses and vans.
Active Distance Support ACDIS – vibrating gas pedal alerts the driver in case of danger
Just like the established Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system, Active Distance Support (ACDIS) allows speed regulations based on the distance to the vehicle in front. The driver is informed about interventions by the system via rise or lowering of the force feedback accelerator pedal, which also serves as an ergonomic footrest. If a dangerous situation arises, the accelerator pedal vibrates to warn the driver. The highest specification ACDIS reduces braking distances by pre-filling the braking system and can give speed recommendations in poor visibility.
ACC sensor ARS 200 – precise data processing for automatic emergency braking procedures
The ARS 200 radar sensor from Continental Automotive Systems, together with the accompanying software for analyzing the signals and communicating with the databus, is a central component of the Active Brake Assist (ABA). This assistance system with ACC functionality enables heavy-duty truck Actros from Mercedes-Benz to initiate an automatic full braking in order to avoid an accident.
The Continental group is a leading supplier of braking systems, chassis components, vehicle electronics, tires and technical elastomers to the automotive industry. In 2005, the company achieved sales of €13.8 billion and currently employs a workforce of roughly 85,000 throughout the world.
As a leading global technology and systems engineering partner to the automotive industry, the Automotive Systems Division of Continental AG combines comprehensive know-how and uncompromising quality in the areas of active and passive driving safety, telematics, hands-free communication systems, drive systems and comfort. In 2005, this Division generated sales of roughly €5.2 billion with a workforce of more than 24,000. Continental Automotive Systems develops and produces electronic and hydraulic brake, stability and suspension control systems, electronic pneumatic suspension systems, sensors, engine management and transmission control systems, hybrid drives, radiator fan modules and electronic devices for comfort and safety applications and is a leading global producer of telematics and communications solutions for the automotive sector.
In 2006, the Division can look back over a total of 100 years of successful automotive engineering. Its motto, "Forward Thinking", reflects its conviction that it will continue to exploit new aspects of automotive safety and driving pleasure for drivers of the future.
