Geely Unveils 23 New Models at Auto China 2008 in Beijing
May 16, 2008 -- Billed as a Chinese automotive industry feast, the Beijing Auto Show opened on April 20. It is on this stage that, after implementing a strategic transition, Geely will reveal its vision for the future. With 23 new models being unveiled for rollout over the next two years, this future is set to be a very exciting one for Geely both on the local market and internationally.
Highlight 1: Most of the cars shall be launched in the following 2 years
The Geely booth at the international museum is over 1500 square meters in area, showcasing 23 cars, representing a new record for Geely in its auto show history. The number of models on display is not only significant amongst the local brands but rivals the displays of the various international brands.
Far from being simply a repetition of existing models or display of cosmetic changes, the new Geely models on this show represent an aggressive outlook expanding into the international market. With a range that includes sedan, SUV and MPV, Geely will also be revealing its new concept car, hi-tech hybrid car and recently upgraded formula car Asia. Even the existing CK, MK and FC are endowed with new refinements including a new 4AT gearbox offering in the CK range and a oil and gas hybrid FC to mention a few. According Geelys strategic product plan, a new model will be launched every quarter, and 70%-80% of the new cars displayed at the auto show will be launched within 2 years.
Highlight 2: Two-carriage MK、Panda shall make their debut show
The Beijing Auto Show, will also be the platform from which Geely will reveal the Panda to the public for the first time. Geely is very optimistic about this new addition, representing the culmination of over 10 years experience in vehicle manufacturing, this car shall start an era of excellence for Geely. The Panda is key to the global strategy and planned to be available in the market in the second half of this year. In addition, it will be accompanied by the two-carriage MK to complete the task of further expanding Geely’s market share of two-carriage cars.
Highlight 3: New energy cars shall be staged in a group
In keeping with an increasing global awareness of issues relating to energy and the environment, Geely has expanded it’s development strategy to include a focus on safety, energy-saving and environment protection. This new direction represents the next step in Geelys technological evolution system towards increased sophistication and excellence.
On display at the auto show are some of the latest new energy offerings, including oil-powered and methyl alcohol fueled vehicles. These vehicles are displayed with the likes of the GEELY FC-E that adopts creative Geely electronic equal balance system (EEBS). Compared with exiting mixed power technology, EEBS technology eliminates traditional gear mechanism through advanced power driven control technology, the driving cab no longer has a shift-switching lever and clutch for backward and forward movement, instead this is achieved with push button technology. Consequently, in-car space has been largely saved and weight of the entire car has been reduced to maximize power utilization while minimizing exhaust emissions and resultant air pollution. In addition to the 90% reduction in exhaust emissions when driving on urban roads, there is a 50% oil saving. At this time when oil price keeps rising and air pollution is a growing concern, the GEELY FC-E is set to become particularly attractive.
The Huapu methyl alcohol sedan is a new generation sedan that has been carefully researched and developed over the last 3 years by Shanghai Huapu, a division of the Geely Group, at a cost of hundreds of millions Yuan. This methyl alcohol powered engine can alternate between pure methyl alcohol fuel (M100) or gasoline. This offers superior power to the gasoline engine of the same exhaust volume, and makes it possible to save in excess of 40% fuel more than the gasoline engine of the same exhaust volume. With the considerable investment in research and development Geely has been able to resolve all key technical challenges currently faced by the rest of the industry in the development of methyl alcohol power. These include such as challenges as difficult startup at low temperature, material adaptability and engine lubrication, and emmissions. The Huapu methyl alcohol sedan currently meets Europe IV standard.
This technology is at the cutting edge in China for the research and development of methyl alcohol cars with its high reliability, power and high flexibility. The advanced technology holds great promise for future industrial prospects. Although currently in the development stage, expectations are that this offering will be available at the end of 2008.
In addition to the Huapu methyl alcohol sedan, the Geely Hybrid oil-power system has now been incorporated into the Geely MK while the Geely Prospect has been developed with the Geely NGV dual-fuel (gasoline + compressed natural gas) power technology. Aside from being masterpieces in innovation, these multi-energy products further illustrate the commitment of the Geely Holding group to realize more energy efficient alternatives to conventional combustion technology.
Highlight 4: Geely’s racing car is comprehensively upgraded
Geely is proud to be one of the few auto manufacturers who have had the technological innovation to be able to develop formula cars in China. The GEELY GF racing car which will be exhibited at the show will be the upgraded model for the AF car racing which has now moved to the third season of racing. The newly adopted carbon fibre bodywork places the GEELY GF in a class higher than the AGF, its lighter frame giving it greater racing advantage while at the same time establishing even higher safety standards.
Highlight 5: A Dialogue on “Blowout Safety Control and Life Protection”
On April 19, a discussion forum on “Blowout Safety Control and Life Protection” will be held at Shahe Airport in Beijing. This will be the second time that BMBS technology (BLOW-OUT MONITORING AND BRAKE SYSTEM) will be presented in Beijing. This technology was released for the first time in China with a real-car demo on January 21 at Golden Harbor, Beijing.
This technology is the only active auto defending technology protected by patent. The core of this technology is real-time monitor of tyre pressure and quick driving brake to stop the car in time after the tyre blows out while increasing the wheel’s adhesion to the ground thus preventing the wheel from skidding under support of ABS.
At the same time of brake, the braking power produced at the normal wheel on the opposite side in relation to the tyre blowout shall be made larger than or close to sum of rolling resistance and braking power of the wheel blown out to effectively prevent the car to run in the direction of the tyre blown out. The brake can reduce the car’s driving speed quickly to thoroughly eliminate the risk of tyre blowout.
The dialogue shall gather authoritative persons, experts and scholars in the industry to discuss the topic of BMBS. On the site, the press and common consumers will be invited to experience BMBS technology in person, participate in real-car tyre blowout demo activity and experience first hand the advantage of the new technology.
In addition, the audience shall have the chance to view parts and components that represent latest Geely research and development. Including the GEELY 4G24 engine which employs D-CVVT technology through a JL4G18 CVVT engine, latest generation of Z142 4-shift automatic gear, and 6th generation EPS power shifting system.
The Beijing Auto Show will be the largest auto show that Geely has participated in since the implementation of its strategy transition. In many ways, the show is an opportunity for Geely to present its achievements thus far and showcase its confidence and vision for the future, both in China and the rest of the world.
