Toyota Prius Wins Recognition from Leading Automotive Consumer Publications07/18/2007 -- Toyota Prius has recently been recognized as the hybrid leader by several automotive authorities.
IntelliChoice.com, an online source for analysis of automotive cost and value, included Prius in its "Best Overall Value of the Year" awards for model year 2007. "The Toyota Prius, one of four hybrids on the list, is the Best Car Value Under $23,000 for the second consecutive year," IntelliChoice said.
Consumer Reports measures customer satisfaction by asking, "Considering all factors (price, performance, reliability, comfort, enjoyment, etc.), would you get this car if you had to do it all over again?" Based on the percentage of people who answer "definitely yes" to this question, vehicles are placed on the Most Satisfying list. ConsumerReports.org said: "The Toyota Prius ranks as the most satisfying vehicle overall for the fourth straight year, with 92 percent of owners saying they'd get another one."
Kelley Blue Book, a standard source for used vehicle pricing, named Prius the "2007 Best Resale Value" in the hybrid category. The publication also named Toyota Prius in its Top 10 list, reflecting the highest ranking of projected resale value after five years of ownership.
"Earth Month" events and sponsorships benefit the environment and education
In recognition of Earth Day, Toyota launched a partnership with the National Wildlife Refuge Association, supporting a promotional program for more than 500 refuge habitats and donating a Toyota Highlander Hybrid SUV as the grand prize for the organization's photography contest.
Toyota's ongoing partnership with Take Pride in America, a U.S. Department of Interior program, has included donations and sponsorship of National Public Lands Day. Toyota is also expanding its involvement with this program into the Take Pride in America School Program with a campaign called "Creating a New Generation of Volunteers." The campaign will educate students on the importance of environmental stewardship. Toyota has donated a Prius for the program's promotional school tours.
Toyota's "Highway of the Future: Mobile Hybrid Experience" interactive exhibits continued their nationwide tours with Earth Day stops at EarthFair festivals in New York and San Diego. The exhibits educated visitors on how to improve the environment, the benefits of hybrid vehicles, energy conservation, alternative fuels, and more.
Toyota Canada celebrated Earth Day with a Toronto environmental fair for Associates and contractors, which included the collection of 5555 pounds of e-waste in two days. The items that were sent to recycling centers instead of landfills included televisions, computer monitors, printers, fax machines, batteries, cell phones, and PDAs.
Lexus sponsors competition for environmental innovators
For the second consecutive year, Lexus has served as the Transportation category prize sponsor of the California Clean Tech Open, an annual competition promoting the creation of clean technology. The event is a unique "business plan competition." It seeks entries from professionals, scientists, and students alike who are prepared to take their innovations to the marketplace by building and sustaining a new company. The Transportation category is designed to attract technologies that improve fuel efficiency, reduce air pollution, and minimize dependence on gasoline.
